Stoner confirmed retire end of the 2012 season

Reigning MotoGP™ World Champion Casey Stoner confirmed on Thursday that he would retire from the sport at the end of the 2012 season.
The Repsol Honda rider addressed the media at the start of the official pre-event press conference for the Monster Energy Grand Prix de France, making a short statement in which he outlined the reasons behind his decision.
“After a long time thinking, a lot of time talking with my family and my wife, this has been coming for a couple of years now but at the end of this 2012 season I will be not racing in the 2013 Championship. I will be finishing my career at the end of this season in MotoGP, and go forward in different things in my life,” Stoner told the assembled press.

Wonder what is really up? Missed all those races one year, now this. Kind of strange.

Wow! I guess $$ isn't always the motivation. When you know you can do it, and be champion at it, maybe there's not so much to prove anymore. And with new family around...AND with the Simoncelli accident not so long ago...

Good on him - I hope he goes on to live a long and happy life.

Most are speculating his unhappiness with the imminent CRT take over.

+1 its on the news here a bit here this morning, a short excerpt from an interview I saw Stoner noted that he isn't happy with the direction the sport is taking recently.

He's 26 now, he's been on the Circus since he was 14. Money is probably no longer an issue, maybe he's just had a gutsful?

I'm sure he has few bucks in his pocket.

I wonder who will be the replacement for a champ that good.

I think it is a bit early form him to retire, he is still good enough to challange the rest for a good 2 season.

Good on him for taking a stand for his own reasons, especially family. Takes balls to walk away from so much to be a good daddy to his kids and hubby to his wife.

He understands their wants and needs of him 'being around' as well. It's a dangerous sport and he knows it and also knows how it would hurt his family if something were to happen to him.

It would be a easy financial decision for him - money wise he should be set for life with what he has been paid and will continue to earn in endorsements.

Ducati need to get their shit together so there is a decent challenge in 2012. Maybe Rossi will move again for 2013!

Rossi moving is likely. Go out with a bang and win another championship with Repsol, or better yet a CRT team when they go 100%.
