Geez, you just assume "professional" athletes would make tons of $. Now sponsors not only make the driver line up their own team, but make them buy parts as well? Makes we want to be an NFL kicker where I can make $500K US and only work the equivalent of 15 minutes a week, including practices of course.

It is what it is. It's what money riders can bring with them to the table - F1 is the same way. Even in the small ranks of AMA SBK (see: Tommy Hayden and Chris Clark).

I didn't know about Dovisioso paying for his parts, but I did know he had the hop ups.

Sorry to shatter hopes and dreams here but, there really is no money to be made in racing and there never really was. 'Famous' racers excluded.

2003 Suzuki GSX1300R

Theory is when you know everything, but nothing works. Practice is when everything works but you don't know why. In my shop theory and practice are combined, nothing works and I don't know why.

Kind of reminds me of the old joke where two hikers see a bear on the trail and it starts to charge. One hiker starts to run away the best he can, but the other hiker opens his backpack and pulls out a pair of nice new lightweight running shoes. As he's putting the shoes on, the other hiker says, "what are you doing putting on those running shoes? There is a bear coming at you". After getting them situated the hiker with the shoes says "I'm not concerned Buddy. All I have to do is outrun YOU!!"

The best way to survive is to beat your teammate every week.
