Racin' @ VIR North

Myself and Dayrock did some racing this past weekend!! This is the onboard footage of the first race. This was my second race weekend and Dayrocks first. We were gridded 40th and 41st, which was second to last row of the second wave(i think, may be confusing this with another race). Anyway, we were at the back. I finished 13th and D-rock finished 21st. Pretty darn good for his first race!

Nice work... LOL. Almost running off the end of the roller coaster with that guy. And the sneaky line you took around T3... Bastage!

Thanks. Still have LOTS to learn. Including not watching/following the guy in front of you go too deep in a turn. Really I think the video of the second race would have been better, but the shutter vibrated closed. It even had some offroad footage!

This racing stuff has pretty much taken over my life. I'd say I'm preparing, thinking about, or at the track about 80% of the time. Off to Summit this weekend!

I have a feeling Eazy won't be able to take it much longer, and he'll be back to the track. After all, he's the one that introduced trackdays to me.

I'm jealous too! Wish I could have been there, but I had fun riding along. Was that dayrock you almost plugged in the tail in T3 towards the middle of the video? Congrats to both of you, I'll see you late 06 or in 07.

Better hurry, I'm starting my campaign for the white plate 22!

You should have been there man. Would have been cool to see you and Jeff Wood running together. He set a new low time of 1:29 on the 600. It's the only other bike that sounds badder than yours...hahaha!

Yep... I guess that's why he's in the AMA.

During one of the schools previously, Aaron from Cornerspeed, was telling us about how he takes some of the corners. Crazy, crazy stuff. He actually tucks the front and saves it about 3 times per lap. Talk about pucker power... ZOINKS.

1:29 on a 600 is just ridiculous.

Just watched the vid. Cripes I miss racing.

Anyway, dude if you cleaned up in that one section a coupla turns after T1 (Hogpen?....the real technical lefty and the little switchbacks that follow) your laptimes would plummet. It's a tough section....I used to suck going thru there......but there's time to be found.

And then there's the rollercoaster. That's what separates the men from the boys......ooh-fah. Anyone seen my tonka truck?

Cripes I miss racing.

No, It wasn't Dayrock. He needs to work on his starts. j/k It was his 1st race and he did great. I'll have to watch again and see if I can see a number. I had a couple of close calls though! The one video that the shutter closed on, you can still hear the audio. After the start, going into T1, you can definately hear a bit of a crunch sound. I wasn't sure if I got into that guy/gal or not, but the audio confirmed it. Just enough contact to make a noise though, nothing serious.

GDJAM, after I watched the video, I realized that once I got clear of most of the traffic I should have changed to the quicker "non-racing" lines. I think T4 is the key to the section your talking about. A good exit in 4 sets up your drive out of the esses and onto the back straight. Can't wait to get back to VIRN and apply some of the stuff I learned in a trackday environment!! I'm shooting for a 1:38 or better.

Like a 1:26... You'll need a couple years and some factory support to get that. Plus, the stickiest tires on the market.

C'mon, they weren't running 1:24's. I think that is like lap record.

I need to look into that, cause I'm not sure either.
