He had the best job in the world and did nothing but complain. What's not to like?

I like Casey more than I like Valentino. This should be exciting to see from him.

I again like Valentino more than Casey. Whether its a show or not, at least he interacts with the crowd and is more personable.

About an hour after the 2009 Phillip Island race (I was lucky enough to be there), a nondescript guy walked out in jeans, t-short and cap, after everyone had gone and just the pit crew packing up and most of the crowds had gone home. Turned out to be Colin Edwards, took his time to talk to the few of us still milling around on the track opposite the pits, handed out energy drinks, posters and signed stuff, posed for pics, etc. So very humble. I couldn't imagine Casey doing that, most probably already in his hotel room by then getting a massage.

I hadn't seen that before. What a great exchange. I love the responses at the end too:

"Passes were too aggressive" Vs. "I have to stay in front".

They were so far out front that Stoner was able to lay it down pick it up and still finish second....

That is still one of my favorite GPs of modern times. Simply amazing racecraft by the doctor. Stoner may be a whiner, but he did a damn good job of fighting Rossi the whole way.

NM the second link was good. Casey was a whiner, probably still is. He was just mad that Rossi had the skill to pass in the dirt and he obviously did not.

Yeah, see, this is where I get a bit lost with the general North American perception - Casey didn't strike me as particularly whiney, but then I do speak a bit of Australian - perhaps he just got a bit sick of the press asking him to blow smoke up Valentino's ass, along with everyone else in the known world.

And anyone who could get a frickin' World Championship out of that Ducati wasn't short of skill, in my view....

Wow never seen that before, the announcers were freaking the hell out! Great watch. Was it safe to say that the a Yamaha was a superior bike? And were these the Rossi Ups RED Michelin days where he'd get his slicks fresh?

I don't think anyone is saying he doesn't have talent/skills, but compared to other riders, he does not seem to have charisma, or a connection fans of Moto GP.

As for a general perception for whining, if its significant enough that a lot of people (on the net, people that you talk to, etc.) associate him with whining (other than his racing skills) then maybe there's some substance to it.

Regardless of skills, I think Valentino (and a few others) is a better sportsman.
