Nice that you got right into it Ragdoll.
How did you like the track layout and the wheelie out of the bus stop?
Brandon was there. Sometimes the areas he stood were quite unnerving.
Track layout is good. I wish it was a little more technical(not that I have it figured out at ALL yet).
I was a wuss coming out of the bus stop! Half throttle in 1st to a short shift into 2nd coming up to that kink to the front straight.
I haven't been on a "real" track for over a year. First time ever to this one. So I was just breaking myself in yesterday. Next time I'll have the track better in mind and I'll try more stuff.
I had Michelin Pilot Power CT2's put on at the beginning of the day. Since this is my street bike as well I went that route. They work very well! That soft edge is nice. It was about 90-95 degrees all day with full sun though. Hot hot HOT day to be at the track. They still stuck well. I knew they had limits so I didn't push too hard for most of the day.
I chased a "tracked" R1 for most of my last session. He was semi-lousy in the turns but the bike had more power than my RC51 in the straights, so it got frustrating. He knew I wanted to pass him so he was pushing hard. He explodes into straight sections and then parks it in most corners. So I'd run up on him fast. His lines were unpredictable at times so I was cautious to pass when I had the chances to. I'm usually a late braker, he was not... so I was chasing him down the straight and at corner 2 I hit the brakes very late and was side by side him. I backed off a little to let him run wide like he always does and as he started coming back up to come down to corner 3 I bombed past him. He can't do turns 3 and 4 so I never saw him again after I went through there. That was my mini-race of the day.
Oh yeah... the point of all that. So after about 15 minutes of hard riding to pass that guy I finally pass him to find that I cooked my tires pretty good. I kept that faster pace for another lap and my back end was kicking out constantly. My next loop around I came into turn 3 and felt the front end push a smidge, then flicked it into turn 4 and hit the juice and the back end came out about 2 feet. Predictable, but still... There was one lap left but a I played it safe and pitted early.
I had my GoPro camera on my front fender the whole time. I'll post up video soon.
EDIT: Oh yeah, and while I was giving chase to the R1 and pushing myself and the bike... Evad passed me like he was riding a wave from an atom bomb. FWOOOM! I didn't feel as fast all of the sudden.
