LS Qualifying

I am watching the Laguna Seca qualifying on TV and they just interviewed Roger Lee Hayden and he said you could get on the the throttle much ealier then on a superbike...

Right after that Freddie Spencer said "That's because the super bikes have higher torque numbers compared to the GP bikes"

Sorry but I gotta call bull**** on that. Yeah they might be 200cc bigger but that's not much, and we're talking production vs. proto-type. Let's just call a square a square and admit it's the traction control.

Someone must have slipped a couple of benjamins into Spencer's pockets before broadcast...

Torque is not always a good thing, like when it comes to corner exits. They probably develop the 800 to put out more horsepower than torque. Also TC helps I am sure.

I buy it. Since superbikes begin life, technically, as road machines, they start out life with a motor that is tuned for street usage. Given that an engine such as one would find in a MotoGP bike, with a stratospheric redline and powerband, would not be ideal for street usage, it makes sense that you'd have more torque in one of the superbikes than the 200cc smaller, race-focused GP bikes.

I'd still like to see some dyno charts

As would everyone else. However - no one will release a dyno chart on an active bike. It simply lets competitors know what you have.

Hell you cannot even get Yosh Suzuki to release a dyno on their "production" bike.

I buy it... I'm sure they have higher total torque numbers... but not down low where street bikes have it.

You can tune a bike for just about anything... why not that. Especially when you have a 16k redline to work with!

Though I believe Spencer was just being an idiot and should have said that it was the much better TC systems, I do think that the Superbikes may actually be producing higher torque and maybe even hp #'s. There are some that believe Ten Kate's Fireblades are making close to 250hp.
