Sete Gibernau Retires From Racing
by dean adams
Wednesday, November 08, 2006
This has been rumored all week in Europe and yet again the rumors are true. Sete Gibernau, 33 has retired from racing. Gibernau finished second in the championship in both 2003 and 2004.

At a press conference this morning in Europe, GP and MotoGP rider Sete Gibernau announced his retirement from racing. Gibernau had offers to race in 2007 MotoGP, but refused to 'just race for money' and decided instead to retire. Few remember it but Gibernau actually recieved his top GP class break by riding for Wayne Rainey Yamaha.

Gibernau raced for Ducati Corse this season in MotoGP, but suffered several bad crashes, damaging his body each time. WSBK champion Troy Bayliss rode his bike at Valencia and won the race hands down.

Gibernau's rivalry with Valentino Rossi is well known, as is Rossi's prophecy, uttered after one heated battle with the Catalan rider that "Gibernau will never win another race."

And he didn't.

Think it was because of what Bayliss did? Body too badly damaged? Cumulative things? Scared of the Rossi curse?

He was fun to watch when he was giving Rossi a run for the top spot.

I don't know but Bayliss rode it like he stole it. That was just some amazing riding. I figure he might be too beat up to go on. Injuries hurt longer when you're in your 30's... been there done that.

Biaggi's back in WSBK after a 1 year layoff. After Sete loses his hot girl friend, cause she'll dump him for this move, he'll be back with Max in WSBK.

My 1 year prediction.

Anyone else see the Brazilian Rabbit's back to GP on a Duck!

Its in his blood. And 33 is too young to retire no matter how much cash you got.

I give him a year and he is back in WSBK... GP is beyond him at this point I believe.

Its a young mans game... and his game is old!

I honestly don't know if Sete can hack it in WSBK. What I felt is that he had lost some edge. He wasn't willing to push the envelope anymore.

To be a champion, there comes a point where you have to push yourself beyond your immediately apparent human ability. It's like that last rep while weight training, it comes from the heart. In my limited opinion, he rode without heart this past season.

When I watch WSBK races, those guys - like Troy B and C ride like they stole those bikes, regardless of age. Look at the line ups with riders like Nitrous Nori, Kagayama, etc.

It may be the last time we see Sete with his naked on the duc girlfriend with Botox lips.

Well, if Gibbers doesn't belong in MotoGP, what is Colin still doing there? C'mon, seriously, Sete can still spank the majority of them boys on any given sunday.

On the other hand... yeah, I think that Vale finally got to him just like he did to Biatchggi.

Now, I think that Gibbers is smart enough not to take a ride if it not with a good team and there are none at this time.

I would love to see him on a Honda on WSBK next year or for 2008 given those boys a run for their money. He's very smooth, clean and fun to watch... at least more fun than Colin is.

Or he can come to the AMA like James Ellison might. Going from GP to Corona Honda.

I'm thinking that for Ellison... that's a step up!

Seriously though, look where Checa ended up this year... no where.

I feel sorry for Barros as I think he definately took a step down by getting that D'antin gig just to say that he was back in MotoGP. With a semi-privateer bike, he was able to take it to the factories and full privateer boys in WSBK. I had hoped he would get the call from the Tenkate boys but... oh well.
