It'll be interesting to see how he does.
Will he be another John Surtees?
If so, he doesn't have much time to work with, I say that in terms of tier 2 super 8 to F1, let alone being an F1 champion.
I hope he does well.
More than that, I hope he's happy as the years click by.
For sure one of the best to have ever graced two wheels.

There's a great deal of longevity to be had in the top echelon of Aussie V8's, a bit like NASCAR, so perhaps he's looking at a longer game now, staying close to home and family, on a nice little earner if all goes well.

Who would be the most successful crossover champ after Surtees? Eddie Lawson and Jeff Ward spent some time in Indycars, Wayne Gardner and Greg Hansford both raced in Australia, apparently Damon Hill started on bikes then went to cars...

All true, but the only other that I can remember that got to F1 after historic MC equivalent (500 then MotoGP) was Hailwood, but Hailwood never won a F 1 championship.
I'm not aware of anyone that went the other way re the same classes.
I think that overall, the differences between cars and bikes, the age of champions, and probably a fair bit of being in the right place at the right time, engineers in that extremely few will ever be in both classes, let alone have won championships in each.

Serious fun.
I get the impression he's looking for some of that.

Yes, at the end of the season, he looked like a guy in need of a few laffs. Racing cars in Australia will keep him close to home and family, easy flights back for fishing, competition to keep him sharp - all those good things. If he gets into the top tier, there's a long career to be had...

There was once a motocross racer named Jimmie Johnson. I think he might have been successful in a boring form of auto racing.
