American Supercamp Planning Thread

The purpose of this thread is to organize ourselves for the Feb 24-25, 2008 American Supercamp in Santa Rosa, CA.

Please try to stay on topic, only those who are interested in attending this location on these dates need post here. We can make a separate thread for other locations/dates.

American Supercamp Homepage They provide the bikes.

Let's begin with this format:
name: screen name
commitment level to attend: 1% - 100%
own gear / rent gear: own or rent

Things we need to figure out:
-Hotel
-Ground transportation
-total number of 100% committed riders
-who needs gear vs. who has gear

Please do not register with American Supercamp until we have a firm number, I will try to see if there's a group rate available but I must have firm numbers or there's nothing to haggle over. I do not expect any discounts but will ask.

Also, and this is always a sticky subject, if you're the sort of person who can't make a commitment and stick to it or is unable to plan that far ahead please don't take this the wrong way, but don't waste the time of those who can. This camp is in February, that's 6 months away, nations have been overthrown in a fraction of that time, if you want to be there you can make it happen.

Once you commit to 100%, tell everyone else to leave you alone during these dates. You're already booked and have unchangeable plans. Not trying to be a prick about all this, and it's fine to say you're less than 100% commitment at this time, that shows me you're working on it. My point is once we count on you to be 100% committed please be 100% committed.

I'll start off:

name: jetblast10
commitment level to attend: 100%
own gear / rent gear: own

I emailed Aaron to get a feel for attendance for Cornerspin and if my bike will meet their tech requirements. Will report back.

Aaron emailed back:

Hi Kevin;

Right now, that school is open for you and your friends. Our March
7/8 school was 6 racers from Loudon and our September school was a
group of 7 enthusiasts from Tallahassee. It always makes for good
energy when it's a group of friends doing the school together. We can
take up to 9 students. Since the October 6/7 school is the only one
until November 17/18, talk to your friends soon as I'm sure we'll be
getting other inquiries and I'd like to be able to take as many of
you as we can if that's what you'd like to do. Also, if there are
only 2-3 of you that's cool too. You are not obligated to fill up the
school with your group. Just want to make sure no one gets left out.

Yes, you can use your CRF. Sounds great. If the exhaust has a baffle,
please use it during the school. I know most riders take it out when
they are doing their own thing.

I look forward to riding with you and your group.

Kind regards,

Aaron Stevenson

I'm liking this idea alot.
It'll be a great time of year to do this.
We could accommodate more people at a more reasonable $$ amount.
Smaller, much smaller, class size.
Aaron runs a great organization and probably wouldn't beat us with a stick as often as Danny Walker's group (i've heard they can be brutal on us old guys )
Plus their focus is learning roadracing on dirtbikes which fits very well with trackday skill training.

I've talked with Aaron numerous times. Very smart and great instructor. He is always enthusiastic about his classes and I will be taking his level 1 racer school next year. He loves the Cornerspin and always says that is his way of letting loose a bit. Of course, he also says he pushes all his students to wreck the dirtbikes so you can find the limit. I'm in.

sweet. wont be the first (or last) time any of us have wrecked a dirtbike.

also, James - no knobbies. I can order you set of Bridgestone trailwings if you like. He wrote that my bike would pass tech with them. With a little luck maybe I can stop by a Kawi shop. I'll bring extra ties downs.

Dave?

Let me see what size I need. Also, after talking with Aaron, I think he told me I would have to lose the exhaust, but i'm not sure. I'll have to verify that.

also, we can wait til' he announces his '08 schedule.

I'm must likely posting this prematurely. I have not checked out the sight or details. Do they provide bikes? If not, can a new KLR be broken in during the program? What are the logistics so far? Does this replace the Cali trip next year?

yes, this would replace the california trip.
Cornerspin is a better deal.

Cornerspin can provide you a bike. They use CRF100s with dualsport tires.
No KLRs at the school but we can drool over each other's new KLRs and plot & plan Alaska each evening.

I think they're already booked up Steve. goto http://www.cornerspeed.net/news.html and give Aaron a call. Maybe they had a spot open up.

Rick & I are driving up Friday and back home either Sunday night or Monday depending on his schedule. If you can get in we'll work out some transportation.
