And it's also BIG in reality (Tenere) - we have had it on the market here in europe for a year now, most probably meant as a serious competitor to BMW's GS series (Which is the best selling bike in the German market - with approx. 3 to 4500 units sold per. month!)

A real adventure bike

I like the looks of the FZ8 as well, just wish it had more power.

The Tenere is in the running for Fugliest bike ever. The FZ8 looks sharp though. Little less torque and about the same weight as a 919 from the looks of it.

Yep.

It will be nice if we see a FZ1 with the cross plane motor soon.

Tenere

FZ8 & Fazer8

Again - sorry to say, Yamaha has provided an engine with no bottom, just like big brother FZ1!
All tests here in Europe have complained the complete lack of "pulling power ..."
Note the different length intake funnels - Hooray for technology (ride-by-wire) so complicated we can only look at, not touch ....

Great Yamaha is getting a little gutsy in their marketing........

.... the BMW f800GS looks to be a noble light weight contender.....

I don't know guys.....that Super T might be my next bike. If I can swing it...it's a shit load of money and it's based on special order only so it's not likely to be found at a bargain. Big ass motor!!!!! I'd never get Yamaha blue....the black would be tits. As soon as a Ti exhaust was available, I'd sntach it faster than snatching a snatch. Looks? Come on
You prissys have me amazed. Call me all the weird names you want...I can get by the looks no problem. I saw a Rune once!
It's a tried and true platform. I think I have a boner brewing for it, but it's size is tempered by this nagging lack of money syndrome.

A few years on I'm thinking that cross-plane crank was possibly one of the biggest load of marketing bullocks in the last decade. For all the publicity and anticipation was it not a big let-down?

It does sound good though.

god aint that the truth... .my knees get weak everytime i hear a crossplane R1 with an aftermarket exhaust ride by me!

and ride by wire on a moto... really, lets just OVER COMPLICATE THE HELL out of things..... i know i HATE the drive by wire throttle in my moms 4 runner, you get on it, there is a split second before it actually starts to take off... and after you let off from WOT it keeps going at WOT for a split second, which is not a good feeling in a car.... i cant imagine it on a bike.

Great, never heard one before in the steel. Went to youtube, didn't know they sound like a V8. That is GREAT sounding bike. Too bad about the whole Yamaha thing though.

I have the Tenere set as my wallpaper right now. I really like it a lot. I am hoping that one or two of the Yamaha dealers around here get one on their own so I can see it without dropping cash on it first.

I'm thinking alot about that price.........plus the "by order only" and want to tell Yamaha to corgially fuck off and choke on my dick. This because I know I can't swing that kind of extortion cash.

I know I'll never afford one new, but I like the gangly thing. And the name is cool.

Only way I'd ever own a ruin'd (rune) is if I had the money to build a wall to hang it on.

I can't comment first hand, but I've spoken to a racer or 2 and they reckon there's just something about coming out of a corner about it in a good way (I think they were trying to say something about the manner in which the torque ( or power pulses) is delivered.

The only thing that was a let down of the new R1 is the weight. The cross-plane crank shaft is fantastic. I take it you have never ridden one? Unlike a typical inline 4 you do not have to really wring it out to get usable power. It has the torque download, but also just lets loose at it's top end. Thiis type of power is perfect for both street riding and coming out of corners on the track. I have ridden one at both and it is great. all they have to do is get that thing on a diet!
OH and the sound is fantastic!

not my thing....

...I just don't get why you'd want to have all that weight in the dirt. That bike got 18" up in the air and the bounce from landing was all over the place!

Once you've been seriously dirt riding on a decent bike, anything else is just, well, it sucks. And you can't have nearly as much fun.

I'd rather ride my 919 all the way up to the dirt, have a hell of a time doing it, too, and turn around, go home (have a hell of a time doing that, too) pack the 'other' bike in the truck, go back, then tear it up the dirt and have a hell of a time at it. Rinse and repeat.

all that....rather than having a mediocre time at both and just saving the gas of hauling the dirt bike there.

My 2 cents.

I have no intentions of using it as a dirt bike. I want a touring bike that is capable of handling gravel/dirt roads and the craptastic country roads I have around my house. Keeping the 919 for all the Sunday afternoon rides.

I look at that bike as more of a post-apocalyptic survival vehicle for when society falls apart and paved roads start to deteriorate. The niner won't last too long in that kind of environment.

I thought I wanted a BMW GS some day, in addition to the 919, until this came around.

Din't Darth Vader pilot a star stryker?

Or comand evil minions that piloted it. Cool looking cruiser if your into that sort of thing. I for one like the S10. Even more now that I saw one in person. Looks good and seems very comfy. I'm sure it rides like a majic carpet over craptastic roads.
