De-smog kit coming. Going to get this batch of performance mods sorted out and then start on the cosmetic mods.

Installed the koubalink today, dropped the rear about 1.5" and raised the front forks up in the triples. Still has tons of suspension travel but is more user friendly riding around town.

Took the seat strap off too, at my height I slide back on the seat and it hit me right under my butt, not comfortable for very long.

Looking forward to the exhaust and carb kit arriving, that's next weekend's project before we take it to to Iowa the following weekend.

Bunch of guys around here ride them all over the desert like banshees. Known for reliability. Some have a hard time adjusting the valves...but, it probably just takes a little practice. Good Bike!

Installed and FMF header and exhaust last weekend, never got around to posting pics.

Much lighter than the stock set up.

Header bolted right up, very nicely made.

Pipe is louder than stock but not obnoxious, just a bit more throaty.

Also desmogged it, quite a mess of unneccessary plumbing.

Also installed a unifilter foam filter, haven't gotten the carb rejetted yet. Runs decent with the stock carb though, can tell it has more punch with the new pipe and filter.

Damn you man, now I've got the itch to start throwing money at the XR again. Congrats on the FMF it looks great on there, do you know what decible level it's rated at? They're militant about decidle levels around here.

It's rated at 96db max and includes a spark arrestor. Should be legal in all 50 states.

Yeah, I hosed it off after our last trek into the mud, guess I should have just left it caked on there to accentuate the badassness factor huh? I'll have to work up to that, my OCD personality makes me clean my bikes after every ride.

Keep riding it in the woods and it well get F'd up.....bounce it off a coupla trees and viola!

The first thing that breaks is those stupid elephant ears....I remember replacing them a coupla times and then finally saying F it.

Yeah....some XR geeks will tell ya they funnel air to the head and I'm sure they do. But they're too darned expensive. Get the big tank and it's no longer an issue anyway.

I also have a Jegg oil cooler to keep her running cooler and I believe it makes a difference.

Now you got me kinda pumped to dig mine outta the shop and get her fired up....I love Fall rides and Fall is but a few weeks away.....Bring it baby!

Worn out stock tires didn't help any in my recent tumble. Ordered these up today...

Kenda K760 Trakmaster II Rear Tire - Dirt Bike Motocross - Tires - Motorcycle Superstore

Have read nothing but good things about them and can't beat two tires for $115!

I don't know why I didn't see this thread sooner

Lookin' good
Definitely liking the new exhaust, you'll have to post up some pics when you get those tires mounted!

Nice bike, "uncorked" a few of them when I worked at the shop, makes a huge difference, really wakes them up.

I'll check, but I think I sold my last main/pilot jet set for those. Simple and inexpensive to open them up, worth the effort.

Be sure, very sure, to check the valves as specified in the manual - and change the oil every 1500 miles or less.

Follow the maintenance outlined in the manual and it will last a long, long time.

Can I say that enough?

Great machine, have fun!

I've got a carb jet kit in the garage, just haven't installed it yet. Runs pretty good without rejetting but I'm sure it will make a big difference when I finally get around to it.

Uncorking it sure seems to wake them up, "wheelie at will" comes to mind.

At least in the lower gears.....

Curiouse. Why buy a new one when there are so many used ones out there at half the price?

Perhaps the title of this thread confused you, should have called it "New to me toy - XR650L". It's an '07, bought it used with 2400 miles for significantly less than a new one.
