I just have to get the proper gear...I'm using top of the line Vason leathers with all the armor that I used for road racing....great stuff, but just doesn't have the padding in the right places for low speed, high ground impact, dirt bike type spills.
Here's a pic of one of the better riders doing the 180 "sweeper" although quite a minature sweeper.

Hasbeen.... We had some guys running BT-45's, they are perfect. They make them in 16" rear and 19" front right? If you have a 150...yeah, tires and handguards are all you need. Hand guards are a must, absolutely. They've save my hands and my levers half a dozen times in two races.
I've got to get better gear though...the road race gear isn't cutting it anymore...I'm a crasher. Different parts of my body seem to be contacting the ground than ever did while road racing.
Here's my round 2 bruise....goes from my ass to my nuts and is getting bigger each day....pee is a tad darker than I'm used to also. Hurts like a mofo when I get up after sitting...but in general tylenol is handling it and it's getting better every day. Should be fine for the race next month

I was going to use Dunlop GT501's but those tires are like rocks! They're heavy and the casings are stiff as a board...I'm pretty sure I could run'em with no air in them! The BT-45's are quite a bit lighter and have a much more supple casing. It's nice to know that you know guys who are using them with good results.
I'm still going to moto my little 150 so I'm going to stick with the 19/16 wheel combo and just switch out rubber when needed. I got me a No-Mar tire changer last December so changing tires is a breeze now.
You need to get some body armor PRONTO JB. Those are some knarly bruises!
I think I'm going to get the EVS ballistic jersey for starters and see how it goes from there.
PS...the BT-45's that guys are running are both front tires. 100/90-19 and 110/90-16 or 120/80-16

dude!!!! you look like shiiit..... hope that heals quickly and no long lasting effects....
NEMM Round 2 at Rocky Ridge vermont is over. I'm doing better but still crashing. Great little...and I mean little track.
There is a short vid of a practice session here: Sideways in the Northeast
JohnnyB
That is an awesome little track...Man I would love to do this
Next event is at the same track, Rocky Ridge Raceway in Graniteville/South Barre area of Vermont. Some beautiful roads on the way there. Feel free to come as spectators, no fees to get in. Place is kind of hidden...so if anyone wants to go let me know and I can save them some time finding the place. It's up on a mini-mountain top, quiet and private.
No race experience required, leathers/moto-x gear, helmets, boots required. No knobbies allowed. Not sure if you have to join NEMM or not...if so that can be taken care of at the track too.
This will only be the clubs third race ever...so we are still sorting out the details. Very friendly group.

Here's a vid from our latest race.
This is the XR100 heat race. I'm the guy in the brown leathes and red helmet that the photographer ended up chasing the whole time. Finished third in the heat, 4th in the main.
No crashes, no bruises this time. Just very sore.
JohnnyB
That was awsome JB! Was your wife in that heat and are you the guy that "logojoe" on youtube was referring to?
Yep, the wife was in the heat, visible for a little bit, same color leathers.
LogoJoe is a guy that's never there but tells us how to ride all the time I'm the "Branson" guy he was talking about. He's mentioning my reputation for spectacular crashes and questionable passes.
Our next race is Aug. 30. Same track but with a MotoX section added for our new "Super TT" class. Bascially the same as Premiere Mini but with a required MotoX section.
I've been racing for about 15 years ... this is the most fun I've had on a bike. Really affordable, tons of track time, and usable tracks all over the place.

Setup my 150 for Supermoto and I'm taking it out to Adams Kart Track this Sunday. I can hardly wait!
Once I get it dialed-in and I'm up to speed, I'm coming for YOU JB!
We could have an East vs West "old guys on mini-bikes" shootout! (well, Im old anyways)
Looks like you are ready to go. Nice front brake setup. I'm using a CR80 front end with an adapter to run the stock size CRF disk and caliper. What size wheels you got there? 16/19? I went ahead and built a set of 17/17 because I have a source for the tires cheap.
You'll have a blast. Whole lot of action in a small space and small amount of time. Let me know how it goes.
JohnnyB
Yeah, I'm sticking with the 19/16 combo because I still intend to "Moto" it. I can change back to knobbys and the stock front brake and be off-road ready in about an hour. 17's would be sweet though.
I'm not sure how much of an advantage there is using 17/17 unless you run on a track that has got substantial "road race" style corners ... other than tire selection. We have some guys running 19/16 and the BT's I think. So far they don't seem at a disadvantage on the tracks we run.
I saved my 19/16 rims and spokes, just need to find a set of spare hubs to lace them back up and have a set of moto wheels.
The RR tires can be a bit much trying to play around in the backyard on wet grass, and of course mud becomes a big problem.
Keep us posted on how the first ride goes.
