1984 Sporster

Here is the project I've been working on for the past two weeks, changed all the oil lines, had to build a battery box, both the swingarm pin and rear axle were a Redi rod. Still need to rework all the wiring and hopefully I can put it on the road this summer.

Ahhh a good ol EARLY 84 Ironhead, I would not know anything about them..........
The frontend looks to be a 83 or older model, since it has the dual front disks, unless it is a REAL EARLY 84 Ironhead.
I have just never seen a 84 early or late with that dual front disks, usually they did away with them in 83.

Looks like it is going to be a pretty nice bike when finished!

got the bike two years ago, something came up, never had time to fix it, sat in the corner of my garage. Finally started working on the bike a few weeks back. Started the engine tonight, fuel was pissing out the float bowl. Take the carb apart and clean it??? Will keep you guys updated.

Ironhead is what they call the old sporty's before the evolution engine came along.

See the Shovelhead is the bigtwin with Aluminum heads, and the sporty looks like the Shovelhead but has Cast Iron Heads so they are refeered to as Ironheads.

AH! THank you, FMT. I always thought it had to do with the shape of the valve covers.

I worked on it every evening for like two weeks, then I started working on the truck, the house, the wife... I need to get a few parts machined by my friend and I'm hoping to at least go for a spin around the block before the first snow fall.

I'd like the end result to be more like this.

Don't worry, it's just an idea. The plan for now is to get the thing on the road spending the least money possible. RATBIKE

The one in my garage is an '84, the fancy looking one in the picture has a newer motor, I can't say how old it is. Whoever built it did a great job, I like it. Cafe racer style tail, USD forks, single-sided swingarm, very nice...
