I had a 91 FZR600; it was my third bike a few years ago. It was fun, but I decided to upgrade to something a little more modern. I do like the early 90's sport bike styling, it's what I drooled at when I was a kid!

My first 'free' dirt bike. Won from my Aunt's divorce. She pulled hard the first three years I ran her, now she's not so happy.

I am planning to throw in new rings (not worth a full rebuild) lap the valves, replace valve seals, gaskets, friction plates and clutch springs. Got a new inline fuel filter as well, as I've Kreem cleaned the tank before, but my carb still gets chunkies in it and I'm tired of cleaning it.

I think it always ran regular car oil in it, until I got a hold of it and learned better, so I'm sure that's the root of a lot of problems.

I've never done even a simple rebuild like this; just watched youtube videos, but I think I can handle it.

Any issues with just putting new rings in and bedding them in? Or should I really take the time and expense of honing the cylinder and putting a new piston in?

Compression is low, btw, sure you figured that out already.
