Well, I put my GL500 on Craigslist to see if it would draw any nibbles.
Bought the bike back in 2006, put a few ten K's on it, been a great motorcycle.
Just changed the oil and filter, plus gave it a nice set of good tires.
Earlier, the fork seals and fluid had been replaced, new brake pads and shoes, tapered steering head bearings.
Painted it with black textured truck bed liner paint, blacked out a few more parts, made it how I wanted it, fun stuff.
Frequent valve and cam chain adjustments, carbs synch, new plugs, replaced rear diff fluid - New hand grips, cool mirrors, "special" handlebars, Silverstar headlight bulb, jeez, I've done a lot with this machine, why sell it?
And I do not think it is bad looking -
Had a call last week, I even forgot I had posted it.
Guy wanted to come see it, I gave him a link to more pictures, he called again and was on his way up to look at it.
He showed up, with his mechanic, we did a walk around, chatted a while, I rode it around so he could see/here it in action - and his mechanic rode it.
He is looking for his first bike, something to tour the backroads of the country on.
I had the bike listed for $999.00 and that is my firm price, he loved the bike, wants it in the worst way and committed to picking it up next weekend.
Hey, I'll have you know that I rode 100 miles yesterday with my favorite biker girls! First major ride in over two months, was aching by the end but felt great to get out there and was definitely good for my head.
1982 Honda GL500 Silverwing - Painted with a textured back finish, this is a unique and reliable motorcycle. I would ride this motorcycle anywhere.
In fact, several weeks ago I rode to Herman MO and back without as much as a hiccup, as mentioned, this is a reliable machine. 700 miles, round trip, no problemo.
Consider this, I just installed a set of new tires - not any tires, not cheap tires, Continental Milestones - You're looking at $250.00 for the tires alone and another $80.00 to have them mounted and balanced - this is done!
The brakes pads, front and rear, are recently replaced and in great shape - the front also has a braided stainless steel line replacing the stock rubber one. You're looking more than a hundred bucks parts and labor here - done!
The headlight is a Silverstar bulb, plenty bright. The handlebars have been replaced with a super comfortable set that also allow for nice leverage on the bars to make the bike really handle, while at the same time being really comfortable for long trips. Trips - grips, nice Grab-On grips, those grips alone were $20.00+!
Oil and filter changed less than 200 miles ago - and I checked the clutch - all of the plates are within spec, in fact, nearly new, a lot closer to new than not, I was amazed!
The radiator coolant was replaced at the same time, the valves and cam chain recently adjusted - carbs are clean and synch'ed, choke works great, petcock works great - goes onto reserve at about 140 miles, gets about 45-50 MPG, maybe more.
Big thing here - the waterpump mechanical seal and the oil seal were both replaced - this job required engine removal, you do not want to know what this cost, it is done and was done by the local Honda shop a few years back, no issues there!
Air filter, as new - spark plugs, recently replaced with irridian ones. Differential fluid changed - yes, it is shaft drive.
The rear suspension has a little squeek to it, probably could use a lube - it does have a rear air shock and the front forks are also air adjustable.
You'll notice the tail trunk, so handy. The seat is comfortable, the relationship of the foot pegs to the seat to the handlebars is nearly ideal.
The battery is only a couple years old and always maintained - there is a connector for a Battery Tender already installed (battery tender itself not included, available locally for under $40.00).
This is one of the easiest to work on machines I have ever owned - maintenance and repairs are a pleasure on this machine.
The exhausts - custom fishtails - are not quiet, they sound righteous though as the engine is a single crank pin - that means it sounds like a Harley.
The mirrors are exceptionally cool - they not only look good, they actuall work GREAT and that is important. Horn works, all lights work, as mentioned, I'd ride this bike anywhere.
Are there any downsides to this motorcycle? Sure, it is old, but it has been maintained very well. The paint it far from perfect, but it is unique and very easy to touch up. The speedo shows 30,000 miles, I think it was replaced and the bike actually has a few more miles on it. How many, I do not know. It is not pretty to some, and it could used some TLC to pretty it up if you wanted, I liked it fine the way it is. It is not perfect, but it is not bad by any means, I like this motorcycle.
Insurance, well, it costs me about a hundred bucks a year for liability insurance - check those insurance costs before you buy, this one is not very expensive to insure, something to think about.
Cash only - Offers considered - I have clear title in hand.
I can deliver this motorcycle, if needed (as mentioned, I'll ride it anywhere, no problem) for a nominal fee or come up to St. Joe, pick it up or ride it away.
Sold as is, for what it is, one of my all time favorite motorcycles.
Call me at XXX-XXX-XXX with any questions or to arrange to see/buy this wonderful motorcycle.
Hurry before I change my mind
And until I have that good old cash in my hand, it's not gone......
