1978 Yamaha XS750

I have always wanted to find an older bike to turn into a cafe racer style. I stumbled across this on e-bay for under $500 and less then 12 hours left. Does anyone know anything about them? I don't know that I am ready to get one yet, so will probably miss this one, but if it stays under $500 I might be tempted. Since I have the Speed Triple, I kinda like the fact that it is a triple instead on I-4. I also like the 7 spoke wheels. Just wanted to see if anyone had any feedback on these bikes. Are they nice or should I run away

Thanks for any input...

Shawn

IMO that old shaft Yami is/was a dog. There are waay better classic bikes out there to pick from.

I have one sitting in my garage right now that I've been slowly putting back together all summer. I bought it from a friend who took it apart but never got time to get it back together. It's been interesting trying to put back together not having taken it apart. There are performance parts avalible but not a huge selection. I really like the look of these bike when done up as a cafe racer. If your still interested in picking one up let me know and I'm send you the info and websites I've found to help with your decision.

Nice price. Get the carbs done and you'll have a moderately rare get along bike for cheap. The power output was never up to par on those bikes. The big brother XS11 was King Kong at one time. The 750 got bored out to 850 in later models. If you can find some vintage aftermarket pipes for it, it does make a splendid sound. I say onward soldier with your renovation.

So did you buy it? Only $374, not a bad price...

I've owned two of the 850 cc versions, and although torquey and reliable as an anvil, race bikes they were not. There are much better candidates out there for a cafe project! Good luck on your search...
