You know I give you an "A" for effort, and it is not for everybody, but I like it -
Did you ever have any problems with the shock mount? I know you where thinking about changing it.
It's a work in process, rock on Smoke!
Yea she's not for everybody but she has a small following. The shocks work great!!! Lately i've been doing more tuning than anything else and i have to fix the oil leak so i can do some track days on'er!!!
I, too, don't really "get" this one. I like old bikes that are totally restored or old bike that are "cafe'" style. Tell us a little more about your bike, if you don't mind, so that I might get it (I might never, but I love bikes and I'm curious).
Correct me if I am wrong Smoke, did you first envision putting a slightly more modern from and rear suspension/brakes on a "vintage" UJM and this is where the project is at right now?
There was a lot of debate over the rear shock mounts, I know. And me, I'd like the rear to be lower, but show me any motorcycle and I'll show you something I would of done different.
And if I understand the project, it is, like most motorcycles, a work in process, continually evolving.
When that BKing arrived, you seemed to be spending more time riding than with the project bikes, imagine that, sounds like something I would be doing as well.
Hopefully some others will come out of the woodwork and post more about their bikes and projects, motorcycles, I like them all.
Yea Hack and Pigsquat hated it too but i love her. Im gonna check those GPz's out right now!!!
Who am I to stand between a guy and his old ugly girlfriend. If you love her, you can carry the world on your shoulders.
Your last name wouldn't by any chance be Frankenstein?

Change you can feel!
She has a 600 Kat front end, GSXR subframe, Kaw rear wheel with disk brake setup and the swing had to be stretched 3" to make fit. The upper half of the motor (head and carbs) are from a later model GS550 with vacuum driven carbs and slightly larger intake ports. The rear suspension (shocks) are from a chinese company and they work rather well.
I wanted something that would be fun in the backroads but i also wanted something that would be "different". She handles great and he has just about the right amount of power to go nuts in the backroads without the fear of breaking loose coming out of a turn.
She gets the same response my BKing gets but once we hit the backroads and im leaving them behind they think it's a larger bike and don't believe it's just a 550. They want to ride it and see what it will do after that so i think that's cool.
She is a constant work in progress and has gone through several changes. I'll have to find my other pics and post them.

Yea that was the plan but at first i kept the original subframe.

The shocks turned out to work very well, the reason i raised the rear end was for ground clearance and stance.

Im sure it is far from over lol!!!

Well you know more than most how much i love the BKing
Hopefully some others will come out of the woodwork and post more about their bikes and projects, motorcycles, I like them all.
I would love to see some more projects, i did check out some of GPz's stuff last night.
I think it's sweet. Just enough mods to make it different but not gaudy.
Nice job.
I think my problem is there is too much function and not enough form LOL!!! I think once i get it to were im satisfied with how she "functions" i can focus more on the looks and maybe more people won't see it as a eye sore...
I thought it was going to look something between my brothers 72 GT550, and my 87 GS450... I guess if the two somehow mated with an ape, your bike would come out.
Only kidding. More pictures would be cool, so we can see 'the work' in detail! I like to pretend I can tell the difference between a pretty weld, a function weld, and a 'was that welded, or is that the result of two random parts colliding at high velocity?'
This BKing you speak of. Show the jury proof or suffer the indignity of the blind date.
I posted a picture of his BKing in his Introduction thread.
Smoke is a top notch guy, he allowed me to ride his BKing, it is the one I am pictured with - and in Smoke's sig line, you'll see him with is BKing as well as the other riders of that day - with me in the middle, I believe.
this is a cool build. you ever go on the gsresources? I'm on that forum. I ride a gs750 for my daily rider
Yea, i use to be on there but i was out for a while (T-Boned) and when i was able to get back online i could not log in because i was gone so long and my acount was deleted.
I had the build posted there but since i was gone too long POOF!!!
very nice build, other than my 919 I have a 77 gs750 with a few mods, v&h pipe, pods, jets, bla bla bla brakes. Is that a gixxer front end? Ever see the monoshock katana swingers put on it?

The front end is from a 600 Katana, i thought about going with a mono shock but i do like the look of the dual shock setup more on the older bikes for some reason.
