Under engine exhaust?

my old buell had a muffler under the engine and exited to the side. has anyone done something similar on a 919?

Not that I've seen. the CBR900RR conversion is very popular, but I don't imagine that the under-engine exhaust would be too difficult. Doesn't that Kawasaki EN6r have an exhaust like that?

edit: yes, sort of...

I've seen a few 919's with an under engine exhaust. Two have looked very good, with a nifty little muffler can and the other one looked terrible imho, having a rusty steel muffler that looked like a smaller version of something off of a 49 packard sedan.

I believe that the OEM downpipes were used, and that the can was just attached underneath with no mid-pipe...but I didn't have a chance to inspect them too closely.

alot of those under engine exhausts do a double u turn of sorts... so they can keep the header length.

personally, unless the 919 had a shorter tail (ala ninja650 / buell xb12's).... the stock setup with dual exhausts is the only way to go on the 919 IMO.

Closest I have seen is this fine example. There appears to be a form of canister under engine - presumably to give the system some volume.

Search out pics of Ferris Bueller's bike here. He put a CB1000R exhaust on his 919.

I had a troll through by '919' folder of stolen images. Found this one - all I remember is the entire system was custom - the headers are oversize to retain overall volume again.

Here's the build thread on that bike. There are more photos of both the VFR swingarm and the exhaust.
