Stick a fork in it

Hey, Everybody,

Been doing my research with the search button. I hope this isn't too tired a subject, but here goes--is it worth the "small" investment to upgrade the stock fork springs and valves? I've got the forks off for powder coating, and if it's gonna be done, it might as well be now. Siphon your sage advice through a Newbie filter, and I'll gleen from your wisdom.

Thanks, Twisters!

Best time in the whole wide world to do it. With them all apart for powder coating, most of the work is done. If you have somebody install or rework the valves, the cost is wayyyyyyy down.

my 2 cents

I just realized I put this thread in the sporting twins section... wish I had one of those. Anyway, since now is the time, what would you guys recommend? Progressive springs, Ohlins, etc...? I took some pcs to the powder coater Saturday (local Honda shop), and when I got to the Parts Counter to ask about springs, the guy said he couldn't find any. He told me to get on the internet and bring him some part #'s... Not sure who it was a few weeks back who started a thread asking about customer service in a parts dept, but I sure have an opinion now... I'll find the part numbers, but what all should I have done? Is springs and a valve job everything? What does a re-valve entail?

Well, for some inexplicable reason, I thought you had a 51. What you ride will determine what is available in terms of hardware and services. Let us start back with what you ride. Are you on the 919?
I see that you have an 07 919 by your public profile. Give Dan a call at the number below. He's an Ohlins guy of the highest order and might be able to give you the fastest start.

You may also give this guy a call. He does revalve/rebuild jobs on all forks.

Thanks, Big and everybody. Yeah, I'm on the 919. That might change just how much a fork job is really worth, huh? I'm not a canyon carver yet, but that's my goal.

There is some good info. in this 919 suspension mod. thread. Once the front end is sorted out you will want to replace the rear shock. IMO the 07' 919 forks are pretty decent, it is the rear that needs a upgrade.

BTW: I moved this thread to the Honda 919 forum.
