Show me your pipes

I have staintunes and am actually looking into new ones (unless i receive a fine in the letter box in which case the bike has to go).

My first pillion ride of the year on Jan 1 resulted in the girl I was taking burning her leg getting off the bike wrongly. I may or may not have laughed inside as I did warn her, but I am keen on what pipes you guys ride with and how they fair up heat wise and noise levels. Staintunes get burning hot but sound and looks great.

Heres mine (not up to date. got rid of that ugly fender and painted a few more bits

I run stockers. The heatshields they came with prevent most burns. :P

Scorpion Street Extreme- 900RR Header

Nice deep rumble at idle. Sounds great over 4500 RPM especially under acceleration. Not to loud cruising at highway speeds.

I just bought a full cf scorpion street extreme much like g00gl3it's but mine will be from a gsxr instead of a bandit so the midpipe is conical. Will post pics as soon as its finished and welded up.

Excellent, you will like it I think. I bought one for a ZX-10 because I thought the shape of the mid-pipe would be best to adapt it, but the stars aligned and I didn't need it. Just cut the flange off and slipped it on.

I'm running Leo Vince carbon fiber cans. Love the look and sound. I can ride for at least an hour and then touch them with my bare hand. The carbon fiber dissipates heat very well.

Properly designed and packed stainless steel cans like Yosh will not do what you have described.
You can put your hand on them and keep it there, but the shells do get warm. (my wife spends lots of time behind me and can heat has never been an issue or a concern)
Titanium runs cooler BUT only if properly designed and packed.
C F is cooler yet, but if the packing degrades and the cans are not repacked, you can burn through cans.

I have a scar on my leg where I burned myself twice in the same spot from my Jardine ss pipes on my old RC51. Pipes were about 2,000 miles, less than a year old. I upgraded to the titanium hi mounts after that. I cannot even begin to tell you how painful the second burn was. It had not healed from the burn the week prior.
I wouldn't say Jardine is piss poor quality, or designed - maybe not as nice as the Yoshi's, but still.

Aftermarket Exhaust Tip re Heat Shields
My Yosh TRSs use the factory forward shields, the triangular ones.
As part of the install I put heat reflective tape on the inside, as well as wrapped the pipes to the degree possible from the rear of the header back to the actual can inlets.
It made a huge difference in stray heat on hot days, and the triangles stay nice and cool.

I had the D&D for quite some time, first pic. Current exhaust is Delkevic CFs which don't heat up near as much as stainless anything. You can get off a long ride and they're just warm to the touch

I like my stockers powder coated. Sure they may be quiet and not rumble, but I dont mind them for what they are. I'm saving my money for better suspension and a new hid unit.

Hey Velo how much did it cost you to get your cans powder coated? I really like the way the black looks with the red.

I wouldnt be getting rid of it for that reason. I would have been getting rid of it from a brain fart and getting caught speeding. That wouldve been a year at least suspension.

Thanks guys these look good, the yoshis are on the list I think

919 is my beater bike so I don't want to put any money into it. Plus I like it on the low volume side.

The Suzuki is the toy. I don't mind it being a bit on the loud side.

How did you paint the panels below your seat/tank? Rattle cans or professional?

I had it professionally done but it was rather expensive. I am horrible with the rattle can but there are others here who have done it themselves with nice results.

One more vote for carbon fiber. My wife has logged at least 1000 miles with me over the past couple years and has never noticed any heat from the cans. I can ride for half an hour and put my hands on them. They're warm but not hot. The Yoshis sound good too - throaty but not too aggressive.

(mdtoney) those Yoshi-carbon pipes look awsome! In fact I like all the modes that you have done. Really nice bike! Great Job! I am a stock jock right now with my 919, but hopefully i can get some mods bolted on this winter.

MDTONEY I really like your bike, all the mods are what I would love to do to mine (if I had a much bigger budget). Your bike probably has to be one of my favorite 919's.

Holy cow mdtoney...that bike looks so amazing. I love everything you've done to it. If I got a 919 again, I'd want it to look a lot like yours, looks so goooooood, love the mods you've done.

Thanks guys! It didn't happen overnight though - It was a LONG drawn-out project; I went through 2 919s and spent 4 years getting all the parts & mods completed. I LOVE the 919!

Mivv X cones- debaffled they are pretty loud, but sound it throaty deep and awesome. baffled sounds close to stock. I left the baffles out..have done all day rides and you get used to it. Heatwise it's okay. you won't burn yourself on the touch, but it ain't ice cold either.
