Someone needs to rescue barton from this pacojerte fellow. What happened?

I figured a VFR would do much better than 36-38 mpg. Is that normal, or you just got a heavy wrist?

I typically fill my tank to the bottom of the filler neck just to avoid any mess. And yesterday I ran out of gas on the damned freeway at 220 miles! I checked the tank before I left work and there was some splashing around and I needed to get home. So I figured I was safe. Wrong. Though it wasn't full, it gives you an idea what to expect.

My light normally comes on between 135-145 range as well.

I ran out for the first time last weekend. 182 miles on the ODO. Stock gearing. I had been riding her hard all weekend. Slight down hill and it quit on me. Got to the bottom of the hill and could see a gas station less than a quarter mile away. Sloshed the tank while cycling the fuel pump. That got it to start and run up the hill to the gas station.

I'm glad because I wasn't looking forward to pushing it or walking.

The most I have done is 138 miles on one tank. Light usually comes on at around 116 miles. At 138 miles of city driving it took 17.55 litres.

I figure I can get 50 miles once the fuel light comes on but I've never ran it dry.

According to my fuel mileage calculator the best I have ever done is 38.9MPG and that was highway driving with a passenger. Around town I average about 30PMG

Here is my mileage calculation spreadsheet.

http://www.mediafire.com/?v62e9nyqojaiy66

Distance input is in Miles because I have a US bike. I have stock gearing so the mileage you put in is compensated 4.5% to account for the speedo error. If you have different gearing you will have to GPS your self, calculate the error % and change the spreadsheet.

The Fuel units are Litres so if you want you use Gallons you will have to mod the formula in the "liters" column.

My best ever is 351.3 kms in one tank. That is 219.56 miles. I don't know how or why. the current tank is sitting at 283kms and the fuel light is not on yet. With this tank I was riding with Z1-Jockey ('07 919 baffles removed from exhaust) and Mr.t81 (05 919 factory exhaust). Both of their lights came on at 230kms. Both mr.t and I have PCIII. I have a F-18 shield on mine, neither of them have one. Other than that the only differances are that mine is a high miler and my pairs plates have been done. Z1 says I must be running on three cylinders and I say they have to start using 6th gear. Can anyone explain this?

If I am patient at the pump, I can slow-squeeze another 3/4's of a gallon when it reaches the bottom of the 'neck'. Just have to go slow and let it bubble down, (vapor replacement).

I usually always do this, as I want to stretch the times between each fill up as long as possible.

My gas light has come on as early as 130 miles and and as far out as 172. Go figure.

Just burned my best tank ever 377.2kms until empty. It just keeps getting better. Sometimes I start to wonder if my fuel light is working.

377 * .62 = 233 miles

233 / 5.01 = 46 MPG --- for commuting / easy riding, that's very do-able.

Honestly I don't know how this is happening. I have noticed that this year my mileage has sigificantly increased and I seem to have more power than ever. This past spring the only thing I did was replaced the plugs (NGKs), repacked my de-baffled OEM pipes and did the pairs block off plates. I have always used just 87 octane gas. Maybe the engine is just broken in now. If that is the case I should be able to get about 300K out of it, as I am sitting at about 150K kms.

What speeds/rpms are you cruising at. Maybe it's the fact that I'm cruising at 80mph and about 5000RPM lol

377km!! That's insane! I too would like to know how you ride it.

I get 220 - 230km before my light comes on. I fill it to the bottom of the neck. I guess if I short shifted, never pushed it hard and kept the cruising speed I could get more, but no thanks.

That sounds about right. Cruzin at about 140 km/hr with Z1-jockey and Mr.t81 last weekend. Sprockets are 16/45, 520 chain.

Honestly I ride it like I stole it. High revs and wheelies included. (don't tell my wife).

+1 mike

my fuel light comes on @ 182-185 every tank and it takes 3.7-3.8 gals religiously.
that's 48-49 mpg for the last 12,000 miles,no matter how i drive. 85 mph on the highway or hooligan-ing around town

I get around the same 220 - 230km's befor ethe light comes on. The most I got out of a tank was around 290km's when it ran dry about a block (coming off the motorway) from the gas station. I got lucky and hit the 2 traffic lights that I had to go through green and managed to use the momentum to coast to a stop next to the pump!

So I'm not the only one to do that? Hah. Ran out one time coming off the interstate and made it thru one stop light then coasted to the pump. Too funny.

I'm sure this has been mentioned several times before, but while the speedo may be off, the odometer is accurate. I didn't check your calculator, but if you're compensating 4.5% on mileage to "correct" the number, you're actually getting 4.5% more mpg than you thought.

I've done this once as well. It seems that anytime I have run out that I can just see the gas station down the road. Just far enough that I know I am not pushing.

Yes, that was quite amusing, just rolling up in silence, stopping next to the pump.

just reminded me of when i was a apprentice,we had a guy at work that drove us mad ,every week he would rave on about how good a mileage he was getting out of his car. One day myself and the other apprentice sucked about 4 gallons from his car, well did this set him on a mission to find out where his mileage went,he nearly pulled it to bits, all seem OK to him, and his great milage returned. All the older blokes though it was hillarious as they didn't like this guy,They nearly wet their pants laughing when we told them we put the 4 gallons back in it

I've been able to get 278km out of my tank and that was about 3 hours of solid riding at about 160KPH. I ran out of gas in the middle of nowhere... luckily I was on a missive hill and was able to roll about 20km before using the fumes to ride into a gas station lol. My fuel light usually comes on with 180km on the odometer.

Interested to see if a PCIII improves my mileage this summer.

Here's where I was. I went about 20km with no fuel in the tanks lol
