New Bike!

with a heavy heart I said goodbye to the 9er and picked up this today...

Haven't wound it up yet, as per break in, but the roll on power is downright scary. Reminds me a lot of the Speed Trip.

Ha! Heavy heart... right. No way that zed gonna help at all in forgetting the clunky ole 9er.

Oh.. BTW.. rings seat in 20 miles or so.. better go get them loaded up good on excel and decel.. get a good seal. Good ring seating = more power. Screw the OEM break-in.. that's only in there for the lawyers. Make sure she's tight and buttoned down good.. and go for it!. Not saying hammer on it.. just get some good load on the rings. after about 20 miles.. doesn't much matter anymore. No constant speeds.. excel up thru the gears.. then decel back down thru gears and repeat, gaining higher RPM each time. Go!

They are a bike that look a bit odd in photos but look much better in the flesh. They remind me of a preying-mantis for some reason.

Apart from the gay mufflers - I cannot understand Kawasaki's thinking on them - yeah yeah it is homage to the original Z1000's quad mufflers, but for F's sake they are hideous and in reality the bike has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with a 1970's Z1000.
Their marketing department would be better off claiming they represent Japanese origami and slice through the air like a paper dart.

Anyway - nice ride, congratulations.

Ha! When I sat on one yesterday at the dealership I wasn't real found of the mirrors either. It's actually the goofy bend in the stalks. When you say fender you mean the front fender, right? That whole thing covers the forks from top to bottom... trying to like is hard. I want to see the forks. Not a deal breaker.. but we'll see?

So what did ya give for the z1000? Had a dealer offer me a 600 mile old demo in that color for.. I think he said under 9k.. might have been 9200.. around there. I was thinking 9500 or so for one straight out of the crate... don't want a "used" one.

I too was looking at the full Akrapovic Racing System. Nice choice. 14 more HP.. 22 less lbs. DAMN!

8744+199 online fee from this shop in FL:

Almost. It all fits together like a puzzle. If you remove one part you will have gaping holes. I'll know more when I get mine and can pull it all apart... which I will do promptly.

$8744, nice! White and Orange tho. Yeah.. the Kawasaki dealers around here are pretty proud of their sh!t. Deals like that?.. don't see that happening. I will hold out for 2011 models and if the colors have not changed.. find a black 2010 still in a crate somewhere. I hate showroom floor bikes... molested .

that's about what I paid. mine was 7975 + 595 delivery + 95doc fee = 8665. saw it on ebay and drove up to Cycle World in cherry hill NJ. every bike on the showroom floor was deeply discounted. Would recommend to anyone local. I work for a Toyota dealership, and we also have a powersports store, but Cycle world beat my "employee pricing" from our powersports store by more than $500.

Fuk! I won't get that kinda deal at all. Maybe I need to just suck up the air fair or bus ticket and take delivery in another state? I swear the stealerships around here act like they are doing you a favor for $300 off MSRP.. I know they are making a killing. doc fees are different in every state.. plus I will have to pay sales tax here. Even if I got it for $8570.. add 8.685% sales tax and at least $100 for docs, lic, and plates... $9400+ easy OTD.. but more realistically.. they will want $9500 before tax & state fees. $10425. RAPE! Now I am pissed.

Can't go past Yoshi, and I really like the twin can look.
Plus you keep the cat which is legal and ultimately good for the world (collective sigh). I read somewhere that your EPA or whoever they are are pushing to make it illegal to remove cats. Notice in the Yoshi pictures the number plate hanger and mirrors have been removed to make it look mean. Crafty if not slightly questionable marketing here.

It is illegal now to remove any Cat from vehicles so equiped on vehicles back to 1977 as per FEDERAL LAW.

Now that ain't to say it applies to MC's since they are recreational vehicles, and I have a 2500HD Turbo Diesel that had it's Kitty Killed, muffler removed, man does it sound SWEET at WOT! to the enviromental Nazi's

Enviroment.....Climate Change........All of that is a hoax.
Melting Glaciers, I went to the Grand Titons Nat. Park back in the 70's and the guide said "This gourge was formed by a passing glacier millions of years ago" But I did not see a glacier, I guess the cavemen must have drove SUV's and cause a spot of global warming millions of years ago, we just have not uncovered their SUV's........

OK, Rant over....back on track, That bike is kinda growing on me in the looks department, but the pics from the ebay site show the guy riding with the helmet with the triangles glued to the sides, I guess that was a design even Paulie Jr from OCC dunb show would do to "Pull it off, and make it POP"

I hope you enjoy many carefree miles on it!

The practical implication of removing a cat depends on where you are in the U.S. In Miami, for example, there is no emissions test required. I lived in Houston for a couple of years and they had pretty strict emissions testing. I had to change window tint on my SUV because it was 20% (fine in FL) but 30% was the limit in Houston.

BEAUTIFUL bike...CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

It's tempting to start modding, but that bike's so well designed and built that all you need to add is gas & oil! Guilty as charged of not following my own advice, but you'll save $$$ by waiting at least a few 1000 miles (although you could be forgiven for doing something with that rear fender sooner rather than later... ) ENJOY!!!!

Nice bike!! Congratulations!! I've seen a couple black ones cruising around Seattle lately - they both had the ass end cleaned up and proper exhaust fitted, and looked WAY better in person than the photos I've seen. These bikes look amazing with a little personalization!! I wish Honda offered something similar.

What's under those radiator shroud things, and can they be removed without leaving an unsightly mess?
