You can! It requires relocation though.

Congrats on the new bike Dave... I'll bet that by now you're not too resentful of letting the 9'er go, huh?

I threw a leg over one of these at a dealership a few weeks back and I was thinking it felt a lot like a Ducati Streetfighter. However, I've never really gotten to ride the Z, but I would hope it was a bit easier on the wrists & nuts... and half the price.

Gotta be a helluva fun bike. I hope to get to test one out someday.

Hey Dave, how do you find the gearing? The CB1R is geared quite low, so its quite noticably more buzzy than the 919.

The gearing is pretty low, but I think it's actually a little less buzzy than the nine was. One of the main gripes about the previous gen Zed was the vibes, something about the way the engine is mounted on the 2010 is meant to correct this, can't remember what it is. (think i read everything printed about the bike before I bought)

What do you getout of 1st, 2nd? Where do you typically sit in top gear at 75 mph.

Counter balance shafts! That's what they added. The zx-14 motor has 2 of them and is the smoothest inline 4 I have ever felt. If the z1000 even sits in the middle between the 919 and the 1352 zx-14 lump, then it's gonna be a smooth improvement over the 9er lump.

From the Kawasaki spec sheet:

"A secondary balancer, driven off a gear on the sixth web of the crankshaft, eliminates excess vibration"

Man I can't wait! Joining that club soon enough.

The engine only has one rigid mounting point to the frame also, the other three mounting points are dampened.

Nice! Like the lines. Congrats! I'd probably go with the new cans too, but I'm sure it will run the rest of the season just fine. It will be a long winter with that sitting in the garage

I think the gearing is pretty similar to the niner's. At an indicated 84 mph the tach reads about 6250, you'll find 65 indicated at right around 4500. But whereas my 919 used to get pretty buzzy on the highway around 5-6k, this bike seems a little happier at higher revs, at least there's definitely less vibration.
I took it out today just to research it for ya.

I just wanted to get a handle on how it compared to the CB1R. Seems like they both are geared low. I guess its in keeping with the move towards the Streetfighter theme by both Kawasaki and Honda. Both bikes seem more intended as an urban weapon, thus the smallish tanks on both, rather than strictly speaking an all rounder as to what the 9'ner is. I guess you could say its the equivalent of a SD990 in 4 cyclinders, or in the same catagory.
