My new (old) nekkid.. :)

Got me some new blood.. The 919 is still close to bone stock until next week when I get a set of cans..

For now, I got a new toy.. 1980 CBX.. And here are a list of the current mods:

Late model CBX forks 39mm
Fork brace
Low bars and sport grip
Brakes from a VF1000 (dual puck)
1100F Swingarm
1100F shocks
Corbin Gunfighter seat
8” headlight
5 row oil cooler
3 Spoke wheels from a Honda Hurricane
Dyna coils
LED tail and marker lights

I've got a swingarm and shocks from a 2000 Kawa ZRX 1100 that are goin on soon..

So far, I'm loving it.. If I'm being honest, it's got no more umph than the 919.. But the sound is incredible!

Some pics!

GREAT CHOICE! I've always loved that bike. Something about 6 sweeping headers...

The previous owner gave me a set of K&N pods and a stage 3 jet kit.. Not sure I want to mess with the carbs yet, though.. And I'm sorta contemplating a custom stripped down wiring harness, late model Kawa 750 alternator, and sucking in the marker lights.. but I'm scared of eating into the electrical on a 32 year old bike..

shouldnt be too bad so long as you have a wiring diagram.

the cbx is one hell of a slick bike, the sound is out of this world!

Bumped into a guy at the rockstore that had his punched out to something like 1200-1300cc's turbocharged ... talk about sexy.

I vote you chop the back bump of that seat n fender off and make it smaller to give it more of a cafe look. but thats just me... or at least get rid of that huge tail light.

something like this

I agree with nd4spd 10000000%

If only that 79 6 cyl was in a 69 "body" life would be perfect. But that is why man invented torches and welders

That's a gorgeous new toy! Totally jealous. Whether you mod more or leave it the way it is, it's gonna make you sooo happy!

Very nice 6. 6-1 pipe - what brand?

The turn signals will be easy to replace with smaller after-market ones.

It's a D&G pipe.. I've got a Kerker Baffle that is supposed to fit in there.. But I'm not sure I want to risk it as the standard baffle is held in with rivets..

Congrats, mine's a ways from being that nice, but it will happen.
Right now my engine is in a million bits, and all I can find wrong is a bent rod on # one cylinder. I think that with the bike on the side stand, and with a leaking float valve, the #1 cylinder filled with gas, and hydraulic'd, bending the rod on startup?
It certainly pays to turn off the petcock after riding.

sounds like a very logical thought process there.... how are the cbx's setup? 6 individual carbs or a manifold of sorts?

Yep 6 carbs. On searching the CBX site they call it hydrolock, and it happens if the fuel is not positively shut off!

thats exactly what it is. and i could see that happening quite easily especially on an older bike with probably a leaky fuel shutoff and dried up rubber gaskets on the carbs that sits for awhile.

I was lucky in that my PO installed a new petcock and reminded me of the importance of its proper use.. It had been a LONG time since my last Carb'ed bike..

Picked up a fantastic period Bassani exhaust this weekend.. I sent it off for ceramic coating today and will post pics when it gets back.. Thinking i may throw the pods and re-jet when that bad boy gets back.. After thats done, i will probably leave this bike alone.. Although, it may look pretty sweet having the rims coated.. hmmmm

Mine's getting back together now, new rod, rings, gasket set, will get away with under $250 for the engine, well under budget.
Turns out mine has a CAL-FAB swingarm, a popular race mod from the '80s, KAZ YOSHIMA pipes, and rear shocks. Apparently Kaz had a company called Ontario moto tech back in the '80s which specialised in racing Honda parts, especially the CB400F.
The inside of my motor is like new, like a Swiss watch on steroids, it's been a real thrill to dive headlong into this intricate piece of history and come out smelling like a rose. Tonights challenge was cam timing, and it appears to have gone very well with all the timing dots lining up just where they should have, no cam chain stretch issues etc.
Some pundits are saying the CBX is the next Vincent, I'm certainly glad I've got mine, this is one investment I probably will never sell!
