It started with a call to Fullthrottle Inc. Bill pretty much kicks ass. Custom Tripple and a 929 front end off ebay.

Undertail and belly pan from WildHair

RC51 front wheel cuz the 3 spoke just looked wrong with the 5 spoke VFR 800 Rear wheel.

The VFR swingarm is darn close to fiting just need to have some spacers made, some mill work done on the right pivot bracket thingy (not sure what to call that part that the rearset bolts to) and a shock mount machined and welded to the swingarm. Sure wish i could speak to some of the people that have done this over in europe.

Hey man, awesome stuff you are doing to that 9'er.

Not totally sure, but some other people who have done the single-sided swinger might be on here: http://p196.ezboard.com/fhornetsnest56467frm14

In the first picture I noticed that your front tire was low on air, might want to fix that before anything gets busted...jk

Treestump at 90? You have got to quit offroading with the 9er.

The horns mounted look good. Are you going to be able to transfer all the controls? I would think they would have less vibration than the bars.

Glad you didn't get busted up any worse than you did. Looks like you've got a plan to recover.

That is going to be one of the sexiest looking 919s in the US. If you're keeping a price tally (which you would only do if you're masochistic) let me know how much it ends up costing you to do the VFR swingarm conversion. I've wanted to go that route for months, but I keep telling myself it isn't worth it.

How much of the emissions stuff can be removed?????? there sure are a crap ton of hoses and boxes and crap that seams like it could all just go away and clean everything up, but this is my first major mod on a fuel injected bike some im a little nervous about just ripping it all off.

You could remove and block off the entire PAIR valve system. It's the two hoses coming out of the top of the valve cover... they run to a valve which sits in the triangular shaped area in the frame right above, then there is a hose which runs back to the air box. Remove all hoses and valve, plug air-box nipple and custom cut block-offs for the holes in top of the valve cover out of plate aluminum. You can use one of the hose plenum thingies as a template. Underneath, there are REED valves, 2 per side 4 total. The REED valves can be used to seal your block-offs but you have to remove the #2 Philips screw from each one first as the top of the screw will interfere with a flat fit. Every single screw in my 4 REED valves broke but who cares.. you are just blocking off? Removing the PAIR system will neither help or hurt your engine performance or fuel economy. The PAIR system is simply a way for the manufacturer to get cleaner PPM (parts per million) emissions readings at the tail pipe by injecting fresh air into the exhaust on deceleration. The PAIR system does not actually add to or reduce the actual number of molecules of pollutants, it simply fluffs up what is coming out of the tail pipe. Removing the PAIR system will reduce or eliminate that popping noise you get out the tail pipe on deceleration. In my opinion, the PAIR is dead weight on the bike (mere ounces.. but?) and like you said, clutters up the otherwise cleanliness of the top of the engine. Changing spark plugs is much easier with it gone. Also, you will need shorter screws for your block-off plates.

If your bike is equipped with a charcoal canister, you can remove this as well.. I don't have these details as mine was not equipped with one. California models only I believe? It's being discussed on another thread which is current here on WT. See: Center Stand/Evaporative Canister??

Good luck, and love the potential your project has.

+1
I currently have a 954 front end and an RC51 front end, and I'm debating which one to install on the 919 and which one to sell. Even though I like the looks of the 954 parts better, I'm leaning towards keeping the RC stuff since the forks are the correct length, and it seems like that should make the project easier - but I'm really interested to hear hear how you like the riding style with the 929 front end when everything is put back together.

That's quite an ambitious project - keep up the awesome work and be sure to keep us updated with pics!!

Mike

Or.......you could use a set of my PAIRS plates I've just made available. No need to remove the screws on the reed valves as I've made blind holes on the underside for those.
I also used M6 studs and stainless steel acorn nuts (polished) for a finished look on my bike. Just a thought (or plug)

Sorry I haven't checked this thread in a log time. I got a little side tracked. Picked up a Daytona 675 the end of last season and then had to open a new store. But ive been back on it the last few weeks.

Finished up the final mock up on the swing arm (see pics).
Settled on a V-rod headlight (thought I was unique then I've seen them on like 20 bike since) but it'll be sweet lookin anyway.
Mounted up the GSXR pasenger pegs (not in the pics)
Now I'm working on electrical and exhaust (gonna be a huge PITA)

Fork Swap = Simple

Pick up used RC51 front end on eBay or wherever. (Save the headache and buy the whole thing front wheel brakes and all)

Ship the RC51 and 919 triple trees to Bill at http://www.fullthrottleinc.net/ tell him to hook you up with a new top triple and to pull the stem out of the old 919 lower and put it in the rc51 Lower.

Bolt on.

Find a used AfterMarket wheel for an RC30 or RC45 (the VFR wheels weighs like a Ton, or so it seems ) and you can easily pick up a few ponnies there.

Looking good... keep us posted.

Hey 0cool, what are the odds you could produce and sell the hardware necessary to put a SSSA on the 919 (spacers, etc.)? If the price is right, I might seriously consider doing this mod. I've been wanting to do something with the 919 swingarm for a while now, and your work looks fantastic. I'm guessing it will most likely be detrimental to the weight and handling of the bike, but it looks excellent!

Also, how did you mount the rear shock? The VFR swinger uses a linkage, but it appears you've gone with a linkageless design on yours.

They are heavy but the RC30 and 45 wheels have a totally different hub style. I looked for an entire rear end forever and that whole bike is like the bigfoot of Hondas, I think if you could find the parts it would be a better setup than the VFR800 but I was never able to tell for sure.

Well so far all I can tell anyone is that there is NO WAY the price could ever be right. If i had know what I was getting into I never would have started. I quit counting when I had spent far more that the bike will ever be worth. I hope it'll be unique. At this point I"m trying to do everything "right" in hopes that it'll be worth it when I'm done.

P.S. anyone know anybody with a CNC machine that wants to do some "for fun" work??? What people want for "one off pieces is insane.

AMAZING looking project!! Your bike is gonna be sick as hell when you get it done!

My project won't be as involved as yours... I'm only doing the front end. I have the RC51 parts (still looking for the triple...), and I've been planning to have Bill set me up. If you don't mind me asking, what is the turnaround time with Bill, and what is the price for the new clamps. Since he's already done the work for you, I wonder if he would need the triples now to make another identical set...
Thanks,
Mike

Dang, yeah, I forgot to mention that little tidbit, but you can buy that part from Honda and your friend can use to make it work... I did it on my old CBR900RR' 1993 and it came out nice, can't find the pics of that bike, otherwise, I would post them here for your pleasure

The turn around was pretty quick, i think he keeps the top triple in stock. You still have to send him the old lower 919 tipple and the new rc51 lower so he can swap out the stem. I think all together it was like $750 but dont quate me on that its been quite a while.

I have the RC51 legs, but am having a hell of a time finding a used RC51 lower triple clamp. Does anyone know of any other lower clamp that has the forks the same width apart and would be compatible with the RC legs and the 919 stem? I don't want there to be any issues with wheel spacers, brake alignment, etc. Looking for anything that is more readily available than the elusive RC51 triple...

Well I'm a bit closer... here are a few pics.

The V-Rod Headlight with temporary mounting brackets... Planning on having something made but i really need to get this dam thing running so i can get it off to powder coat.

The rear end is bolted up the chain is on and tight.... Pretty darn excited about that, its been a long time coming but my bike has a single sided swing arm!!!! :

All thats left is the Exhaust and i have a lil something special for that so lets hope it doesn't take forever.
