Morning all,
Just joined forum.
I'm looking for a leather gas tank bib for a 2007 Honda 919. Anyone have any suggestions? Manufactures? Web sites?
thanks, mark in MN prairiefire4@earthlink.net

The vinyl bras commonly used on cars look like a good idea, that is until they are left on a little too long and abrasive dirt gets trapped between the body and the bra, seriously damaging the paint. In one case we took off a bra to wash the car and found most of the paint abraded away to the point of exposing bare metal. The problem can be worse with tank bras because contact with your legs moves them quite a bit, accelerating wear.
If possible use a protector that adheres to the tank. Unfortunately, i can't tell you what's available, but the Tankslapper mentioned by cpg74 may be a good idea.
Keep us posted as to what you find.
Infinitely adjustable, made of the finest materials available, and completely sourced from local suppliers -- gotta support the local economy! Order today and know handlebar Nirvana.
as usual, rob makes a salient point; both debris and moisture can become trapped underneath and create problems
which reminds me, magnetic tank bags...same thing, those magnets attract all kinds of little bits, put that down on your tank for one ride and you'll be pi$$ed
magknight makes something for the 919 or you can just buy the 3M 8-12 mil stuff and cut your own shape
i like the combo of the k-drive tank cover w/ tank bag that clips in
Customer service is great, I had one side that near the top never quite sealed a 100%. A month or so later I e-mailed them and they sent me a replacement piece without any questions.

I put the tankslapper on my 9'er a few months ago and you cant even tell its there...time will tell but so far so good.
It's not easy, but it's not very hard to do either. Just take your time and do it on a warmer day. First time I installed mine it was around 60 ish and hense the problems I had with one side. Other side went great, as well as the top.
When I recieved my replacement piece it was probably 80 out and it couldn't have gone any easier.
You can't tell I have them on unless your a foot or so away and actually look.
they sound awesome, i've heard that tank bags can screw up a paint job, does the tankslapper protect those areas too or would something else need to be bought?

Tankslapper makes a tank top for the 919. It's the tank top kit. Look for the link that says tank bag users. That thing is a little tricky to install, but it works well and covers where my tank bag goes...
Not trying to be contrary but I had a tank bra on a bike for 15 years and rode almost every day. The day I sold the bike I took it off and the tank looked brand new.
If you follow the instructions on the website, you will get it right. You have to use a solution of water/ baby shampoo and water/ rubbing alchohol which gives you working time to get all the bubbles out and the edges sealed. It's not the easiest thing Ive done, but definitely not real hard either.
they sound like the ticket to me, I've been looking for something to protect the tank but did not want to cover the red paint at all. Thanks for the help

One more question, would you guys recommend the tankslapper protector or the 3m protector. There both on the website so I am unsure which would be the best

They have a page on the site that gives the pros and cons...I went with the 3M because it sounded like it may be a bit more durable, but the tankslapper can be taken on and off as much as you want, where the 3M cant. probably just depends on ur preference.
I have had tankslapper on for about 4 years. It looks just as good as when I put it on. No peeling or yellowing of any kind. My bike is garaged at home. I would definitely buy it again.
