El cheapo rearsets for the 9er

I've been after a pair of rearsets for a while - I find the stock pegs a fraction too far forward for my liking. Unfortunately even the most reasonably priced sets end up around $500 plus landed in NZ. Around the same price as two weeks of camping fees for my upcoming family holiday!

So I have made some rearset spacers that move the stock peg hangers back 35mm and up 5. They have been sand cast in aluminium, cleaned up and given a spray paint. A 35mm long 'joiner' sorted out the shift rod. You may notice a bracket relocating the master cylinder - just a quickie and I have plans for another cleaner one. The big advantage is all the stock bits just move back too!

The colour is a poor match for Hondas stock and I'm having issues finding anything that matches either the silver or titanium. I'll repaint later as I intend to machine a few 'holes' into the back portion of the stock peg hanger to give them a more exotic look, and I'll repaint the spacers and hanger the same colour. Maybe black?

So colour aside they are a success, moving the pegs exactly where I want them for a more comfortable and slightly more aggressive riding position. The colour is bugging me though ........

Those are nicely done! Since you are so handy with that stuff, why not make adapters so you can boot on CBR900 rear sets. Or 929, rc51, etc.

Allan, I must say, you really do some neat stuff.
This is the second bit of pattern making and casting work you have done for practical solutions.
Most impressive.
Keep them coming !
Have a good 2012.

Ironically hardly ever. However I cannot pass a warrant of fitness (required every year to keep the bike street legal) without rear passenger pegs as it has a passenger seat.

It is the usual thought process by law makers who presume the worst of people - me I'd presume you'd not take a passenger if the bike did not have foot pegs, but ........

Maybe that will be my next project - a solo seat conversion.

Nice one! I'd just keep it a raw aluminum color.

Are you living in John Britten's old neighborhood, or something....?

Nek minute, you'll be casting parts yourself, and cooling them with water from the swimming pool...

I have issues I've just removed the spacers and repainted them with the same paint I used on the sprocket cover - it is a better match .............

It's only because I'm hung-over and not riding today that I'm back in the shed!

I had a talk to the casting man about the sprocket covers when I dropped off the pattern for the spacers. I'm going to pop back and see him late Jan to look at setting up for a multi run and see if it is economical to produce a dozen or so.

I think these would cramp up long legs more though as it brings the pegs up an back from the stock position.

Allan, it'd be nice to find a stock rearset and hack-off the passenger peg hangers and end up with a streamlined rearset for solo riding and swapping the untouched stockers for your licencing requirements when needed for inspections.

Hmmm that is a excellent idea, plus I just happen to have a 'spare' set of stock hangers sitting in a box in my garage

The box of changed out stock parts is getting larger!

Actually, our friend from Denmark, Opper did something along those lines. Of course it looks extra badass on his single-side swinger conversion (...hey maybe you could cast up a couple of single-swingarms for us while you're at it!)

Brutale Hornet - build by opper

I'm sure a man of your skills and ingenuity could take it a step further with some skeletonizing and "artful holes" machined here and there to further lighten and streamline some cut down stockers.

What about if you buy one of those seat hump covers to turn it into a single seat?

Also i chopped off the passenger pegs about 6 years ago.

If anyone comes up with a nice seat cowl/cover, please let me know. I'm looking for one that looks like this Bike Side cowl from Wild Hair Accessories. I like that the front portion of the seat cowl is not vertical, and follows the lines of the rear cowl. Unfortunately, this one is only offered as a complete seat/cowl, and is $420 USD. Bike Side does offer a separate cowl (2nd photo) that is half the price but the front of the cowl doesn't have the same angle.

If I knew how to work with fiberglass I'd try to make one myself...

I've never seen a good seat cowl, but that one is darn near tolerable.

I second the motion! Theres a lack of affordable alternatives. I like the HESA cowl best, pricey though (the one on woodeyes bike looks great too, if juust a touch bulky for my taste)

The first cowl (bike side?) pictured, looks neat cause the seat has been reshaped i think?
