CB1000RR experience

Well now that I weather is finally turning for the better and I have enough miles on the new girl I can stretch her legs without feeling too guilty I think I can finally write a ride report. (okay the above sentance has way to many double meanings)

Put the LSL kit on and bars. Looked great. Ride was much more comfy but on 30 min or longer rides I was still putting too much weight on my hands to be comfy. The supplied bar had a 1.75" rise wich added up to a total of a 5" vertical rise from the seat to th bars. I swaped on the 919 bar wich is about 3.25" rise for a total of 6.5" from seat to bar. Also 3" more narrow. I like it. I am confident I can put some seriouse miles the this 1000 now with no pain at all.

The bike itself rides awsome. Bit stiff over bumps but I'm sure I could tune that out at the expense of handeling. Bike runs STRONG! I am starting to understand the tuned for torque nuturing that most naked bikes go through though. She is plenty strong below 6000rpm but the rate of hp gain from 6500 on up is crazy. So if not riding like an old man, or a crazed lunatic, then one must be a little cautious with the throttle. Large throttle opening below 6k may bite you once it gets on the cam above 6500.

handeling is fine. Havn't pushed the limits yet. Still on the street and the street is still dirty. Straight line though I have experimented and 55 to 135 happens way to fast. I see speeding tickets coming very soon. Engine is smooth as glass and fueling is great eveywhere inclluding 1000 rpm. No need to pull in the clutch while tiptoeing around a parking lot (or rolling a stop signe).

For sure making a fast bike comfortable is the way to go. Instead of trying to make a comfortable bike fast.

I don't think it is safe for you to test out. Ship the bike to me and I will sacrifice myself.

Cool.

How bout some pics?, profile shot of boths sides, one from the cockpit.

I always figured aprox 115 horses and 70 ft pounds torque was my personal limit. My 929 is a weak little sister to your bike. It makes, maybe 130. I can't imagine 20 more horses that. I'll stick with my little 600RR.

^^ [EDIT]

BTW, I assume your pics in post #73 (bottom of p2) are near complete, but I'm hoping for well-lit, outdoor sexiness.
I wanna see all the nooks & crannies, too many shadows with the indoor shots.

You need to get some sun on those freshly exposed areas

It sounds like a fun ride.
I can only imagine what a litre is like, having experienced my GSX-R750 after nothing more potent than my 919.
Stuff is happening so fast when you wick it.
Handling is awe inspiring in relative terms too, real cut and thrust as compared to muscle about.
I can tell you are having fun with it all.

Also, I have not forgotten about the bmep thing - have been too busy to give it the justice deserved.

You sold those plastic bits yet? Just wondering whether it ended up offsetting the cost of the conversion. You're making me jealous.

I'lll get some pics tomorrow. HOpefully it won't rain the entire day. If so you all will just have to wait until Monday. The last pics I put up were very near completion. It was just missing mirrors and signals. But now it has a 919 bar on it so looks a little different. A mirror and signals are also attached. I'll be sure to get a good profile shot so the bar hight is easily visible.

It is alot of fun. I've been getting more comfortable with it and the streets are clean for the most part now but still a little dusty. The 60+ weather we had the past two or three days makes for a big improvment in traction. I would say that it is an easy bike to ride at any pace. Tame as a kitten when the right wrist behaves and stupid fast if you so desire.

Yup. It is rainin all day. But not bad enough to get a couple pics.
The "seated" pic is from standing behind the bike. The cutch cable doesn't actually block the view of the gages that bad.

I really like it. Plan on doing anything with the front brake reservoir? How about the yellow tail?

If I ever decide the 919 isn't enough, I think this will be the ticket. Nice job!

Oh man that is sweet ive been wanting to do this for ever just waiting for a wrecked 1000rr to snatch at work to do it with ,where you get the triple clamp? why not renthals instead of the 919 looking bars ,how much of a pain was the headlight and speedo to bracket and install ,wiring issues ? I love my 919 but its on the weak side and im too old to ride in the attack position my back hurts.
OK sorry was just looking at pics and didnt read the post before posting. speigler kit yea ? for the bars Ive been wanting to make a street fighter forever with the exeption of the tail reaching for the sky.

Touring, a Nike wrist band over the brake res goes a long way towards making it disappear. Maybe just shoot the bracket matte black.

What does the left side of the bike look like? Is it just me or are Streetfighters always photoed from the right?

I think everybody shoots from the right to get the exhaust. Looks great. Nice mustang, too. How many toys you got??

Thanks for the complements. So far I have been loving it. Can't wait for warmeer weather to really enjoy it.

Its basically done for now. I'll do an exhaust and timing retard fix eventually but right now the esensals are done so money is going to be focused into paying it off. I would love to get rid of the brake reservoir but its not a priority. I'll keep my eye out for any low cost options. the yellow tail has grown on me. If I did anything I'd paint the tank and fender yellow. But I won't.

The left side looks the same as the right, except no exhaust and there is a big VIN sticker on the frame spar. I didn't keep the pic or post it because it didn't turn out too well. Its not due to any prefernce of sides.

I have too many toys. In spite of getting of topic. I have the bikes listed in my sig (wife also has a Buell blast, and a crf100) plus the 4 wheeled toys:
03 WRX wagon (great daily driver, fun, fast, reliable, room for nearly anything)
68 mustang (waiting for resto)
66 F250 in process of body off rebuild (restoration would be too strong a word)
Wifes got an 06 Outback Wagon.

You now have two things I like, the 600rr (the 1000 is too much for me) and the WRX Wagon. I'd love to get into one of those.

They are both fun. The 600 is race only. The wrx used to go to track days and such but it only gets used to tow the 600 around now. Funny since I put a cobb stage two on the wrx and never took it to the track since.

That would be a sight. A yamaha towing a 600rr. Maybe a triumph rocket but everyone knows yamaha's dont make enough torque to tow

What? No black exhaust? That does look good.

If you saw the quality of the yellow finish you'd think twice before painting it too.
