919 w/ cb1000r exhaust!

I recentely completed the instalation of an Ixil hyperlow silencer and leo vince link pipe on my 919. Both peices were made for a cb1000r. The set up saved me and estimated 20-25 lbs. Some modifications were needed to make this work as you can imagine. I have included some pics of the exhaust installed and how the parts looked out of the box. I have painted the weld areas with black ceramic paint to prevent flash rust. Will paint the entire exhaust and wrap with black header wrap in the near future. Will include pics of installation and the finalized project soon.

I have a pc3 on it. It runs great with a little tweaking of the two brothers full race exhaust map. I have tuned with the aid of a wide band and it runs a 14 a/f at idle, 13 a/f through the rev range and 12.5 a/f at wide open.

Looks good. If you could y-pipe that so it is the same on both sides it would look even better IMO.

that looks damn good. but would prefer it if the tips were rotated 180 so they point out the back instead of up.

btw... obligatory sound byte is necessary!

I agree with rotating the tips. Might have to drill out the rivets and do that. I am not a fan of shall pipes as it adds unnecessary weight. When i get a chance to record a video with decent sound i will upload asap. Let's just say its loud but not megaphone loud and it has a nice deep note especially at idle.

ya id un rivet the tips, swap the top n bottom, and spin em 180... would look SICK.

so what exactly did you do?

stock CB1000r header, and mated it to a different slipon?

the actual cb1000r header lined up with the head properly?!

I cut the stock header just before the weld to the collector that turns the header into one. Then ran a step down from the header pipes to the "y" in the leo vince link pipe. Then the silenced just bolted up. Had to cut and reweld the hanger on the link pipe and ran a spacer from the hanger to the stock hanger on the frame. The bolt for the silenced hanger runs through the slot in the rear set that is just above the foot peg. I also welded an o2 bung in the link pipe to use a wide band to aid in tuning the pc3. Im concidering trying to fit up a cb1000r header or a hindle header for a 900rr.

This is a pic with the cut header on the bike. I also had to cut out the pieces of metal bridging the two side of the header. This is due to the link pipe being slightely narrower than the width of the stock header.

Well no but i did run it with just the link pipe on. It was incrdibly loud and havoc was had. Not as much as when i was tuning though. Since i don't have my own dunk i had the wide band lcd gauge zip tied to my handle bars while i ran the bike through its paces.

In other news i just weighed the parts i took off. They weight in at 24.2 lbs. Compare that to the 6 lbs that replaced it, that's an 18 lbs weight loss while moving the weight lower on the bike thus lowering the effect of that weight. Combined with the 6 lbs i lost when switching from pilot road 2 to the power pures, sliding the forks up 1/2 an inch, and removing 2 links from the chain to shorten the wheel base the bike is incredibly flickable and accelerates nicely

Great set-up and nice application and concept.

I'm not a fan of the method they used to add the muffler tips - a pack of big rivets! Could have ben cleaner.

Question - is there any muffling in that 'muffler'? What's inside it to shut it up?

Does your Ohlins have the remote reservoir? If it doesn't, I believe you have the same one as me and the only other bike I've seen with one.

I will gladly take my exhaust and put it on whatever CB1000R you took that off of and swap you.

It would be a good trade.

Nine1nine - i got a great deal from indysuperbikes.com on the silencer, 100 bucks, and the link pipe was 275 from leo vince directly. Plus some cash for my super welder friend

G00gl3it - it took me a minute to process that. I'm flattered? (Its been a long day... )

Asraiiil would be correct.

Rosebomb - i would not be against riding that way and meeting somewhere. My schedule is crazy right now teaching msf classes but im sure i could squeeze a ride in somewhere. My schedule is also the reason why i haven't made a sound clip for you nice folks. Hopefully i can get one made soon.

Im not sure what leo would think, but i'm sure it would include ear plugs

I just had one of my co-instructors comment on how amazing it is that my tiny silencer sounds like a big aftermarket can, if that helps get an idea of what it sounds like in person.

I like it. Sounds nice and aggressive.

Questions for you...

1) How do you like your ASV levers?
2) What clutch perch are you using?
3) what outfit are you using for your master cylinder and did you do anything with the front brakes, too?
4) Where did you get your swing arm spools?

Bike looks very nice!

G00gl3it - im using the asv sport clutch that came with its own perch, i have a brembo 19x20 m/c with a brake micro switch, and an abm cnced resevoir. Rc51 calipers are on their way here as we speak. I have galfer stainless lines.

I love the asv levers. I got two shorty levers. Very adjustable and provides better feel.

The swing arm spools are shogun carbon sliders for a rc51. I got them at motorcyclesuperstore.com . I drilled a 3/8 inch hole in the swingarm then pressed a piece of drilled and tapped alumminum rod into the hole to reinforce the hollow swing arm.

Sweet setup you got there! Do you ride in the rain or just fair weather? Would there be any issues running that exhaust and water getting in? considering they are pointing straight up...

You don't ride 15k miles a year in illinois waiting for the sun to shine

There is a drain hole underneath the silencer near the 1st bend from the link pipe. And its all stainless so im not worried.

I have included some pics to aid your understanding

Any small amount of water that gets in there would be burnt off very quickly on start-up. I suppose if heaps of water got in there a real good rev-up could have it squirting out like a porn star!

I do like the uniqueness of your set-up. Good to see variations on the 9er.

Must be fairly 'loud'.
