I had a little leak in the bottom of my gas tank, so i took it off sealed it up.
and put it back on. When i went to start it, the battery was dead, so i charged it up and it fired right up. Then i went to take it for a ride, and it felt really sluggish above 4k rpm. It would idle fine, but when i was taking off, i had to give it a little gas to keep from stalling.
Could this be from bad battery?
Any other ideas?
I tried running a parasitic drain test, however it was reading 0.0 amps?
If your battery is old and shitty, it can do that. Consider it's age. Verify that it holds voltage after a long charge when you have the ignition on/motor off. The voltage should not drop rapidly as this is an indication of reduced storage capacity. Check fluid level if possible.

Change you can feel!
If it ran okay before the tank work then retrace your steps. Something got put back together that the bike doesn't like. You didn't happen to put water in the tank before working on it did you?

Check for hose crimp, also check your spark plugs wires and make sure they are seated and on the right cylinders, did that once. Just throwing stuff out there, prob something very simple, always is.
No water in the tank. It was just a pinhole leak by the overflow line, so i JB welded it. I didnt remove hardly anything from the bike. I did however install a ground from my clutch switch to the side stand switch to the reserve light to work on my f4i gauges. Although im certain i did it correctly.
The battery is one of those cheap ones off ebay, its only 2 months old. I didn't give it a full charge before putting into servce. But as long as it's at 60 percent or so on my digital battery charger, it starts just fine.
The problem is, i don't know if its spark or fuel related.
Thanks for the ideas though
Also i'm confused on the parasitic drain test, becuase on the f4i gauges the clock stays on all the time (even with the key in my pocket) So when i hook up the amp meter, shouldn't i see at least a little current?
Could be the battery. Try giving it a full charge. If you can't get it fully charged, you definitely need a new battery. Being strong enough to start may not be strong enough to run right. They are sensitive to weak batteries.
Second obvious suspect. Why did your tank spring a leak? Is it rusted? If it is, your filter could be clogged.
The work you did could have shaken loose any rust settled in the tank and helped it get into the filter. If your tank is rusty, you need to consider replacement or coating.
I had a similar issue and I'd bet from what you described it's the battery.
1 its a cheap one
2 it discharged and doesn't sound like it took a full recharge, I looked into this when I had the issue and something about the ignition system if you don't have proper voltage in your battery you won't get proper spark.... There lies the problem.
There is a ground wire under the tank. One local fellow here has had repeated problems with it. Did you pull the tank or have it lifted. Maybe you disturbed that wire.

all viable options, thanks for the help. I'm swamped with summer class finals, and then a much needed vacation. So i'll dig into it when i get back. As for the leak, I bought the bike wrecked and it came with a spare tank that was in pretty good shape. However somehow in its past there was a leak around the overflow tube, becuase there is a bunch of weld built up around it. Anyway it was leaking from a pinhole around the patch. There's no rust in the tank, so i just JB welded it up. Its holding fine, so if i can just get the damn thing running good, i'll be back in business.
Sounds like the battery. Take the battery to any auto parts store and have them put it on their tester. Have them put load on it, thats when you will be able to tell if its bad. Pretty sure its the battery. Once they go bad, thats it. Happen to me about 20 miles away from home at a gas station. F%%%%CK!
The frame grounds are underneath the tank on the right side, about midway back on the tank. If you raise the tank up you will see the grounding lug with several green wires attached.

Yeap I have, but have not have any issues since the last time.I covered it with some nonconductive grease.
I finally got back from my cape cod vacation which was to say the least FABULOUS, and started looking at the bike again. I finally realized that one of the coil wires had been pulled off, so i plugged it back in a viola! I guess i'm stupid, but I'm seriously amazed that it would fire up and even pull me 50 miles an hour ON TWO FREAKING CYLINDERS!
Thanks for the advice, however i happy to say that it wasn't the battery and have since saved about 140 bucks.

LOL... it was probably the ground wire to the coil? thus giving the coil a bad gnd and a super weak spark ... so may be the 2 cylinders were half workign haha.
