919 cam chain question

My beemer and ZX14 rattle on start up and specially after sitting for awhile. I think that is because they may have total hydraulic tensioners only. My ZRX's have ratchet tensioners and I have never had a problem with them on cam chain rattle.

Her 919 to the best of my memory has never had a start up rattle so what kind of tensioner do they have?

Thanks -- Bobby

They have a spring loaded "automatic" tensioner, although you can adjust them. The reason it doesn't rattle is because it's a Honda.

I have never spoken ill bout the 919......................

Just wondered why it did not rattle like some of my other bikes.

Beemer will rattle so bad that one would think there is a Ducati clutch in it -- for about 5 seconds.

Having said that there are some models of Honda's where it is preferable to replace the auto tensioner with a aftermarket manual one. Escapes me which models at the moment.

My 919 got a little cam chain problem...

When accelerating above 4k rpm and push the throttle back, I can hear some rattling noise from right side top end of cylinder head

It sounds like shaking the spray paint can with little metal ball inside.

Is that normal??

I know the 599 was one of them, mine would rattle a little.
