Throttle cable snapped after a good twist of the wrist. Strangely it was rusted out in about an inch long spot inside the sleeve. Kind of strange.
When I bought the bike, the steering was a little twitchy in rotating the bars with wheels off the ground. sbeau and i re-lubed the bearings and it held for a year or so, until it started to come back and I just ended up replacing the bearings. I dunno...
I wish I knew how to wheelie... every once and a while I can pull off an ok power wheelie.

I recently did my throttle cables as well. PITA. I can't remember where I posted about it. Talking about a 5 hour job for both cables.
I hear that... I replaced mine, not becuase they broke or were sticking or anything of the sort, but just because they were 8-9 years old ridden in very adverse conditions, and barley maintained to be frank. They worked well, but I wanted to be preventative before they broke on big trip... little did I know what a PITA it was to fix them.
I got them both off in about 15 minutes... the first one was on about a hour later... the second one... was a three day battle and several pairs of needle nose pliers later. I actually road the bike with one cable and it did well.
I have 92,000 kilometres or 57, 165 miles on my 2002 cb 900f. Of course, used plenty of chains and tires and lots of oil and filter changes. One big repair. I ride all year and one winter day, after killing the battery (I should have used the choke),I got a friend to push start. I think this caused a weak cam chain to explode and had to have the top end done. This was at 45,000 kilometres. All has been well since and I always use the choke in cold weather. This bike has never burned any oil between changes which are at 10,000 kilometres now (6000 miles) with full synthetic oil. I always use 89 octane gas as my mechanic swears this keeps the engine cleaner, i.e. less carbonization.
technically running the regular 87 (keep in mind there are different ways to rate octane) but running the base grade gas is better... thats all the 919 needs and will more completely burn the fuel, which will lead to less carbon buildup. but to each their own.
I have some bad news to add here. I was out riding last night with a couple of friends and we stopped at a coffee shop. Before shutting off my bike I noticed the temperature gauge was all the way to the red. This is a very unusual thing for it. I could hear the fan running but the needle didn't move at all. I started to feel the upper and lower hoses, to find that they were firm but not hot. I shut the bike off thinking it may be low on coolant. Once we fininshed our coffees, we set out toward home. After about 2 miles I notice a lack of power. My first thought was that it was running on 3 cylinders and I need a FPR. Stopping at a red light, I started to hear the engine knocking. BAD!. I immediately kill the engine and noticed the oil light was on. Next thought was that the oil pump failed. My daughter was out in my truck and came to pick me up. On my way home I called Mcromo44 and told him what happened at the light. He started flipping through the manual and found that the oil pump is chain driven along with the water pump. I felt some relief to hear this information. Overheating and lack of oil pressure must mean shain failure. I haven't cracked into the engine just yet but I will post up once I do. With pictures of course. If you are wondering, right now she sits with 166,615 kms. Mark my words, she'll be back. Then I'll beat her like ive never beat her before. She WILL be sorry!
I think so MM. It only ran with the knocking for about 5 seconds. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Yup over 100K miles.
Thanks Mcromo44!
No sweat, besides you had it pegged re the oil pressure.
I have since found the page I was looking for and just e mailed it to you.
Chain drive off the clutch to drive the oil pump shaft.
The water pump is driven by the oil pump shaft.
Classic male/female shaft end drive just like an old car with distributor shaft driven oil pump.
I'm really hoping the big ends are all OK, sensing that everything else will be OK.
Since my last post was back in June with 31,000 miles on my triple, I thought I would update to let you all know my Speed Triple now has 45,000 trouble free miles...

Just so we have something to do while you're diagnosing....what kind of oil were you using?
I was using Motul for the first two years I owned it but then switched to AMS
Oil. Been running it for quite some time now. I been doing something for the last few years that will be very controversial. Not changing my oil. I actually do change it once in a while. About every 40k kms but change the filter about every 7-10k kms. Debate!

Controversy?
HOW could any controversy possibly erupt over changing oil every 40,000 km = 25,000 miles ?
Aren't you doing UOA ? (Used Oil Analysis)
And for those that don't know, rickard is the same guy that has a set of original forks with still bone dry seals after over 80,000 miles of use. They have the original factory fork oil in them.

On e she's back on the road I think I'll switch oils again. This time I'll go to canola oil. I hear it's better for the environment and I love the smell of popcorn.
Hey folks, don't post too often but I bought my 919 new in summer of '02 and currently indicating 95,200 miles. Speed sensor (also controls odo) was out for almost a year and since I typically ride over 10,000 a year ...it's more like 105,000 to 106,000 miles and running like a champ!
5 chains at 112 vice 114 links
4 sets of counter & rear sprockets (17 & 44 respectively)
Plugs at about 50,000 miles
2 batteries
Replaced speed sensor
Adjusted shims at approx 50,000
6 or 7 sets of brake pads
12 sets of tires
Front wheel bearings replaced
Rear wheel bearings changed twice
Replaced front springs with set of Hyperpro (rigid)
Replaced rear mono shock with Hyperpro (rigid)
Triple-tree bearings replaced
Replaced rear brake rotor with new OEM
Replaced front brake rotors with Galpher Waves
Scorpion exhaust slip-ons (very nice tone!)
Front Headlight bulb change 2 times
Right rear running/brake light approx 5 times
Repainted black with pearl metallic fleks
Givi front quarter fairing
Givi sport rack
Renthal wide motocross handelbars/grips (red weighted ends)
Red short adjusted clutch/brake levers
OES Engine mounted frame sliders
Thousands of gallons of gas/oil

Do yourself a favor and change the location of your sliders...

Very impressive Major. Congrats. I should turn 50K on my '07 this year. Bought it not too far from you at Fredericksburg Motor Sports. Still love it

dont need a bike to ride the fast lane
I've been meaning to change out the frame sliders and have been using Rotella 15w40 with Fram 6017A filters since I've bought the bike and change at approx 5k miles. My local shop tried to convince me that the Fram filters would seize the engine but corssed fingers, it hasn't happened yet!
omg.... please if you want to go cheap on the filter.... go with the supertech filter from walmart they are actually built pretty good.... fram filters just make me cringe.... ran them on my truck for a while... got a wild hair up my ass one day to cut one open and see what it looked like after 6k miles.... needless to say it had a big ole hole about the size of a quarter in it... and i never used a fram again.

I hate FRAM as much as the next guy, but c'mon...the dude has put over 100k miles on his bike with that filter. At least let him keep using it.

i guess.... i mean you could probably get away with no filter and just a bypass seems as how rickard does 40k kms on a single change of oil.... talk about fuckin bullet proof haha
