I have a $1,000 budget to spend on a toy but here's the dilema, there are two red toys in the garage a 2007 919 and a 2008 Grand Prix. If you had 1K to spend on looks and or performance parts for the 919 what would you get?
Smitty! Hadn't seen you around in a while. Where ya been? Couldn't tell you about the parts since I don't have the 919, but I would say invest in a trackday and getting your suspension setup for you (~$100-130 for the trackday and $40 for suspension tuning.) TexasTraffic and Tony919 and a few others have done local trackdays on their 919s, you should come out too.
Check your PMs.

Just got a new rear but should have waited. I ended up getting Shinko's because I was anxious to ride and got what was I could at a moment's notice. I saw your track day threads Shawn and looks like you had fun. Maybe I'll go that route I know some guys at work that talked about doing a track day. If I'm not mistaken I think leathers are required so that would be part of the price factor.

I can get you free leather rentals and free boot rentals if you need them too. You just need a full face helmet, gloves and a bike. I can help you get the rest....

Thanks I'll keep that in mind. I just edited my the above post. I got to work one day in October or November and this is what I saw as I was taking off my reflective back pack. Showed no signs of wear and was still holding well in corners.

im sorry you bought shinkos.... had shinko advance 005 front and rear... and they were the worst tires ever... at 6 to 8 psi less than what i now run my Pilot Road 2's at the shinkos would slip and slide all over the place... and it got worse and worse as i upped the psi to where they shoulda been ran. Never had my road 2's budge on me.
As far as the money... i say save it... never know when you need some spending reserve in a time of real need.
1. PCIII ($275)
2. Stainless Brake Lines from G&J ($70)
3. Pairs plates from Semi_gray ($46.50)
4. Delkevic Cans ($399 for Titanium)
5. Track Day (209.50)
Or you could change out the Cans for some Thar-Bars and go to two track days. I might also get a fender eliminator of some sort (there's some pretty cool do it yourself ones) and some new turn signals.
You did say $ 1,000 right ?
PCIIIusb and I'd try Lord Duck Hunters v4 Moriwaki map even on stock cans, at least try it.
Front springs
Front fork oil
Good tires
Renthal or other such low bars for better rider position.
Tank pads for better control.
Not a penny on pretties
Spend the rest at the track
Voila !
If you can get the time off work, I agree with the trip idea. Spend whatever $ is necessary to get the bike trip-ready, and pick a destination you always wanted to visit. Perhaps you have a friend or relative you would ask to go along. Take pictures and make memories to last a lifetime.
First off, I would increase the $1000 by selling the worthless junk in the garage and buy a Speed Triple. I would then take the $10,000 and place it squarely in my checking account. I would then quit my job and ride until the money ran out.

Dang! What I gotta do to get you to hook me up like that! Track's not out in Big Bend, is it?
Let me know if you are interested in a trackday (either of you...) I will be at Motorsports Ranch in Cresson on the 20th of this month. Even if you don't want to ride, feel free to come out and watch. They also have parade laps where spectators can ride the track in regular gear (boots, jeans, jacket, gloves and full face) to see what the track is like.
The tracks in the area are:
Eagles Canyon Raceway (ECR) in Slidell, TX (Denton area, close to Ft Worth)
Motorsports Ranch Cresson (MSRC) in Cresson, TX
Texas World Speedway (TWS) in College Station, TX
There are others in the area too, but those are the main ones.
