It was December 05, I was getting ready to go to germany to visit the gf. Wrecked the 600 on cold tires on a offramp.
Went to germany, came back, already gathering parts. Then I was offered a nice sum for the lot, just when I had basically everything to rebuild her. So with another deployment coming up, and the 07 600rr was on the horizon I decided to let it go.
Roll back to fall 05, Dres79 had my 1000 and a track 600rr for sale on 600 and 1000 dot net for sale due to his expecting wife.
Back then he wanted $8k for the 1k. The 600rr was sold almost instantly.
Went to the middle east in may, came back 6 months later, fiending for a bike. 07 600rr was not due till march, I was going thru withdrawal.
Then one day dres79 bumped the thread. I was like wow, still there. He wrote, baby was here, need the bike gone. I sent a pm. I had mentioned to him way back in 05 how I loved it but didn't want a 1000 as I didn't feel ready. Asked him what was my price.
Eyeballs went like this 0 0. 2 weeks later my gf who was visiting again, drove up to DE to get it.
All she had was a puig screen, a jardine slip on, and fender removed. Metzler M1 rubber. That's it. Pure. Had like 5400 miles on it.
Everything was so much more. Power, weight, brakes, feel, it was insanely fast. Scared me almost everytime I rode the damn thing.
As time went on the little mods were added.
Goodridge ss front lines. R+G fork and swingarm sliders. Valtermoto rearsets were some of the 1st mods. Follower by Harris sharkfin, stomp grips, pc3, flushmounts, oe seat cowl, 190/55 rear tire, pazzo levers.
As the mods were added, so were the miles. I got more and more comfortable. Changed to vesrah rjl pads, then later upgraded to galfer sbk lines, and rear line. Gilles adjuster and shift support. A rossi sticker.
Then one fine summer afternoon in june. Myself and 3 friends went to rt14. The rain started, so we turned around. It was still dry and as I got more comfy, I went into a corner too hot and dumped her. Went into a sharp left hander kinda hot, knee down at the apex, I had second thoughts and started to gaze at the edge of the road, so you know how that goes.
Dented the radiator, scratched, or cracked almost every plastic on it. Broke a footpeg and rashed up the nice powdercoated LED passenger pegs. Bent a clip on, but she cranked right up. I rode how with a sprained wrist, bruised ego, no footpeg.
Tore it down a week later. Started acquring parts. Subframe, replacement peg. Took off the passenger pegs. Woodcraft clip ons. Rode in street fighter mode for a few months. Loved it. Even cut up the rest of the nose and screen to where it looked intentional. Found out the front rim was bent. Changed that, then later fixed it.
Went -1/+2 but stayed 530 cause I got a deal on the chain. Changed the radiator and added a Muzzy aluminum fan.
Shortly after that the Gilles adjuster lifters and motovation axle sliders were added.
A few months later much to the relief of my riding buddies I scored a set of sevenstar plastics from a forum member. Then one saturday we pulled it down and swapped the skins. When she came out I was sooo happy. My boys actually cheered. I guess I was the only one that was loving the street fighter look. I still miss it to this day. Although the additional drag robbed me about 20mph from my top end. (Sandbanks verified)
I had my sevenstar replica skins and I was one happy mofo. I was the 1st one with a set in this area. Back in fall of 07. Now there are like 4 copycats. 3 being 600s.
With the plastics, came more mods. HRC quick throttle, carbon fiber rear hugger, tank guard, clutch cover. Then in december, I dropped the damn thing again, in a parking lot. The front locked up as I braked for speedbump and bam, I slid on my knee, and the bike slid over the bump and bent the frame slider and broke the peg. She didn't start right away, but by the time I went inside, cleaned off my busted knee, and changed for work. She cranked right up. So I rode to work with no footpeg. Pissed as hell. Took it back to the storage and didn't touch it for about a month. I was so pissed.
Ordered a peg and went to see what was up. Rashed clutch and clutch res, and the rashed plastics still hasn't been changed to this day. I don't think I ever will. Changed the footpeg and rolled.
Fastfwd to june of 08. A few thousand miles later, I did my 1st trackday at summit jefferson course. Taped out and disconnected lights is how I went around to tracks for the next 3 trackdays. Vir south, summit main, njmp tb....
Then this past offseason, the tax return was too nice. And I went crazy. Galespeed type M wheels, metzler racetecs, 520 conversion, stil -1/+2, full micron system, billet stator cover.
Funnily enough, the track plastics were bought in 07 when I 1st wrecked, as I was gonna run track skins with headlight cutouts, but that never happened. I was initially planning on a sevenstar replica on the track skins, but then I got some puma boots on sale from STG.com and was drooling over 1098's left and right. I say one came out in japan only a limited ed. Puma 1098. And suddenly I had an idea. Got a hold of forum decal man, Eddie, and after a few emails we agreed on a size and color and he hooked it up. The decals cost more than the paint I used to spray the silly things. Lol. Went to road atlanta, and had a blast.
The only recent mod is I finally installed that galfer ss clutch line after having it what, 1.5 years. Lol. I'm about to try some SBS DC pads for the 1st time this weekend probably. Still trying to repair a 19x18 brembo clutch I got, to match the brake, but that hasn't been a priority lately. If I keep it, I'm gonna get it custom mapped one of these days, and throw a proper race shock on there.

well i was gonna hit up Summit main again next month, but since i recently joined the USAF reserves, i was curious when my 1st drill would be. Well its set to fall on that weekend, so this morning i canceled my trackday... me sad now. me mope all day...
at the rate its going i wouldnt be surprised if i dont get another trackday in for the rest of the year, as the rad atlanta weekend in Dec we were eyeing im prolly gonna have drill then too.
Thats a truely depressing thought. 1 TD for all of 09

yeah, shes a tough girl... the 1st accident, i bent the rim, and the throttle clip on and the dented radiator had the fan stuck. i found out in the damn HRBT tunnel when it began to overheat.
i love her, but im beginning to admire the 08+ 1000RRs, everyone that rides em say they are so much better and faster than the these, in EVERY way. Then there is the new BMW coming out starting at $13k, i want a Supermoto BAD, and 1098 Ducatis are getting cheaper on the used market.
I think i'll end up keepig it and making it track only and getting a SM tho... that or building 08 1k RR track bike if i can find a cheap wrecked one.

Well, I think I'm gonna keep her... The more I think about it, the more I think I'm just gonna throw a ohlins shock on it and run it strictly as a track machine.
So next year, if all goes well, I'm gonna try to get a substitute street bike. My dream would be a naked 1000. But Z1000s tho cheap are dinosoars kinda, speed triples are still pretty expensive and the older Duc monsters don't really appeal to me, except S4Rs which aren't cheap.
An Aprilia dorsoduro 750 is the way to go, but I can't imagine those being terribly cheap next year. So an aprilia 550 Supermoto or a Husly 610 might be just the ticket. Those I've seen as cheap as $5k.
We'll see. Tho, for now, I'm working on getting out to VIR in october and possibly NJMP in november.

I can't tell for certain but it appears to be Dragon Supercorsas you were running on the 600rr. If so, you should know better than using those on the street.
LDH, I'm most likely gonna buy it used and send it to you for correct spring and valving for my skinny ass.
GPz, I got you. Will do.
Farmer joe, they were actually metzler racetecs if I remember correctly. Funny enough, I'm on them again on my 1k, and they've done 1 track day and a few hundred street miles. I have long learned my lesson on track tires in the cold and wet. I will continue to run em on the streets. racetecs are pretty good in the wet, better than supercorsa pros, and a lot better than supercorsas I think. But none of em like the cold.

no offense but running track tires on the street is no good. i mean honestly, your not going to lose much grip running PP 2CTs on the street and you will gain a whole lot of confidence. just my .02.
guys ive been doing it for years. im good, plus im too cheap to buy new so i buy take offs, im good. im very confident on my track tires. ive ran metzler M1s M3s, corsa 3s, diablos, and im very very much more comfortable on supercorsas and racetecs. so confidence is not an issue.
also, i dont want a 600rr, im good with my 1000. if you read the story youd see why i ended up with this bike. Uncomfortable on it i am not.
1000s are good training, and the power is addictive, if i ever get a 600 trackbike, it'll be a R6 most likely.
i look at it this way, if i can be fast on this ole tank, i'll be nasty on a proper 600, so im still working on being faster on this. until then, i have no desire to downsize.
more people can ride a 600 fast, but it takes balls to ride a 1000 fast. Nothing feels better than seein ga 600 way ahead and a few laps later im passing them in a turn. if i had a 600 doing the same to 600s, id be like, meh, ok.. but when i catch and pass a 600 or 750 in the twisties, or in the back section of a track, that is waaaayy more satisfying, and then i dont have to worry about being frustrated by the bigger bikes on the front straight.
its always funny when 600 guys say oh 600s are easier im faster on em, and then im looking behind me in the twisty stuff and i cant see em.

With that said.... I have ridden with Snikwad and there is not a problem with his confidence or cornerspeed. We have run away from groups of mixed bikes when the road gets tight.
As for track tires on the street, I have done it and never had an issue. I never rode them in the rain, so it was never a problem. When my track tires got heat cycled, I would use them as street tires till they were totally dead.
It was an economics thing. My RC did not get tons of street time, so a couple thousand miles on my own takeoffs would get me through a summer.
Added a Apexcone 5k HID to the low beam side of the headlights, I was pleasantly surprised at the difference without projectors to really focus the light.
VERY easy install BTW, and well worth it.
Don't buy from xenonexperts, good guys, but way to expensive. Shop around.
Got a new used rear caliper and braket on the way, cause it was cheaper than buying a brand new set of rear pads.
I'm gonna drill the crap out of the bracket, ala LDH stylee to drop a few more grams.
F4iGuy's been getting me wanting to buy a bicycle like mad lately. Its something I've wanted to do and now I would not only have an experience source for advice but company. But priorities 1st. And my Ohlins rear shock might be pushed back as a local guy I met Sunday has a set of my favorite BBS rims so I might be scrapping to put those on the ride, hopefully the gf won't notice. Hahha
Its looking like Rd Atl will be my only TD for 09, which fukin sucks I swear I'm buying a panel van next year and rolling solo if I have to. That's it for now just the HID kit. And more happy miles when my schedule and the weather cooperate with each other. But its becoming increasingly difficult to not ride like a mad man because I'm fiending so bad.

i know little to nothing about suspension but the dudes at Penguin were preaching about the Penske triple clicker over the ohlins for both cost and ease of setup. Those rims are sweet! What they going on?
Penske has its advantages but I want what I want. I want world level suspension, showa, WP, Ohlins. I'm not dawging the home made stuff, but for my weight and riding style, I have a feeling I'm gonna need something with a good range of adjustability, that reading specs of the penske, it doesn't seem to have. Ie. High and low speed damping adjustment.
For what I new penske costs, I can get a used but refreshed Ohlins. Or spend a few hundred more and get a brand spanking new one. I can get the Ohlins I want for $950 brand spanking new sprung and valved to my weight. A triple clicker Penske simply isn't that much cheacper, plus not having to worry about mounting the piggyback reservoir.
The wheels are for my E46 sedan, a 99 328i
Guy has a used set, 18x8.5 and 18x10. 10 wide on my sedan = MEGA!!! + drools + OMG!! His price is good and he has all fitments, says they're not too beat up.
Plus RS-2s have been out of production I think over 5 years now. I've been in love with them since 1995. Fingers are crossed, I'd love to score em, I'd keep em and put em on the M3 whenever I do get one too.
