As of today, I've had my bike 10 days. And there is 800+ on the odometer.
All I've got to say is this thing is probably the greatest bike I've had the opportunity to own.Its been a few years since I've owned a full on sport bike and the past week with this thing has me wishing I hadnt stayed away for so long. It can be ridden as tame as puppy and can get as wicked as a pit viper...All within the span of a few moments. A side from the cranked over position which I think LSL is going to fix for me, I think I've got a keeper for a while.
Wow! It looks great in black. What did you have before this?
I've had all the naked bikes, a couple of 919's a Speed triple, a Z1000 and my still in the garage Goldwing and 1985 Ninja 9. I was always trying to make the plastic-less bikes something they weren't and never would be. Hence, the Wing and the ZX10. The best of both worlds.....

Your post puts a smile on my face. I love being in the company of true connoisseurs of motorcycles as a whole. We are a rare breed in my observation.
Thanks for the good words guys. TJ...I make it down your way pretty often.
My wife has me drag her horses down to a city call Watertown. I just need to figure out how to move horses and bikes at the same time.
sick lookin bike, I love the look of the stock wheels. But a buddy of mine that has a motorcycle shop said the new kawi wheels have a tendancy of cracking.... its just what I heard from a fairly good source. Hes a 3 on the FOS (full of shit scale) out of 10. If I had a kawi Id look into it, I dont so I wont lol.
Thanks...I'm really liking it. Was a little hesitant about spending the dough but I'm really glad I did. The acceleration is downright brutal and its still stock, handling is razor sharp, it doesnt get upset at anything you throw at it and its actually rideable for a few hrs at a time. After riding the naked bikes for as long as I have, getting on and riding this thing is just bliss. Its just so nice to have fairing protection. Riding in windy conditions is a non issue now where with the Triple or the 919 I just would say screw it and reluctantly leave the bike in the garage.
As far as the wheels go.....That BROAD statement really doesnt hold alot of air, probably with him being somewhat of a web rider,he read about the 04's having a casting problem and some were recalled....He remembers reading without ever actually seeing something that happened 6 years ago so he thinks and tells people its a common problem still to this day...Nice. I'd give him an 8 on the FOS scale myself.
Oh so there was a casting problem in 04 that was corrected and hasnt been an issue since?
sweet I dont follow the kawi scene too close but figured Id pass on the here say as it may have been important, I'll stop telling people that. (you're the 2nd one)
the design of those wheels is in my opinion the best looking stocker to date on anything Ive seen in person. I love em the rest of the bike is tits as well but I wanna hump those wheels.... I know, its weird.
Comments on the handling? That seems to be the #1 issue people talk about on the ZX10, odd or awkward stock handling compared to the other Jap brands. I must admit, I felt it as well, when I managed to get a go on someone's ZX10 last year.

Congratulations on the new toy.
I don't think you are as rare as you think you are...it's just a rare occasion that someone can be a connoisseur AND have a garage full of bikes. I've been saying for years "I want one of everything" but until I make that first billion, I'll probably only have 2-3 at any given time.
LSL will make you love that thing even more. If you can tolerate clip ons for hours then a handle bar will have you on that thing for days non-stop.
I could tolerate the clip ons of my CBR for more than my 7 mile ride to work. Now that I have the LSL's on there I road it to 700 miles nonstop to NC. Only discomfort was due to the harsh shock. As far as ergo's went I was as comfy as could be after 11 hours.

The ZX-10R's have always had more motor than chassis the 04-05's were the worst!
The biggest problem is simply they don't handle properly at speed. For normal street riding and canyons they are great bikes, but put them on a race track at anything close to a race pace and they are either so dumbed down on the chassis (bone stock) to keep it from being twitchy that you simply cannot steer them properly or you quicken up the steering with the geometry until they are balanced on a razor blade. I mean if the Factory Superbike teams with their virtually unlimited budgets can't make these things handle properly us mere mortals stand no chance at all...

That's my bike! 46,000 miles and still screaming fast and funny handling!

Is it just me, or does that bike scream for a darker exhaust can?
Yep, it does. It looks a little better in person but still....The can is going to get an Imron gloss black paint job as soon as the roads become un-rideable, which the way the weather has been going should be soon. I probably should have spent a little more coin and got a carbon fiber Akro but I just couldnt justify the money. All I was trying to accomplish with the exhaust was getting rid of all the weight. Just the stock can weighed 14.9lbs, 2 lbs heavier than the complete Yosh system does. It made a huge difference in the way the bike feels. Full Yosh exhaust weight total on my digital scale was 12.8lbs.
Kawasaki has a new, more upright option to the ZX10 in the 2011 full fairing Z1000, called the Ninja 1000. In black to boot. I don't think the VFR800 is my favourite sport tourer anymore.

That looks like it'd work really well!! Do you have a picture of what your riding position looks like?
