190/50-17 - 190/55-17

Hi

Anyone tried the switch from a 50 profile to a 55 profile on a "sportsbike" like a 929 / 954 ?
Will it do any good / bad to the bike thinking of handling here.
Another thing, I could't come to term's with Bridgestone BT016, just hate that tire, but found a real "Swiss knife" in the Bridgestone BT023, wich by now have lastet some 13000 km..!
Bridgestone don't make the 190/55 BT023 combo, so I have to leave them , and was thinking something like the Pirelli Angel ST insteed, any experiance with these tire's would be welcome )

Thank's in advance
Hans

if you really like the bt023, give the pilot powers 2ct a whirl, you'll love em. if you want mileage, give the pilot roads 2 or 3's a whirl. you'll love em.

190/50 = The Suck (they don't even make race tires in this size, that's how crappy that aspect ratio is...)

180/55 = Better

190/55 = Awesome

Unequivocally, although for the overall benefit of both the increased contact patch & ride height the increased price of the 190/55 over the 180/55 is a bit steep for what you get out of it.

Nope - don't think so - the rim ain't wide enough - and don't know if the 929 rim will fit the bike

Huh? I'm running a 190/55 PP CT2. Love it.

Of course.... I should have known.

On a serious note, I rode my bike with stock tires, and Osiris' bike with fresh 2CT's, back to back and it was night and day. Apples and Oranges. Scissors and spoons. Orangutans and, well, anything. I just felt INSTANTLY more confident in the bike, and I barely consider myself an intermediate rider. And I was focusing more on how it felt in the corners, not just in straight line, braking, etc.

Oh, and I'm an idiot when it comes to tires and roads, so ignore everything said above. I've still ridden in the dirt WAY more than I have on the road.

You must be running really wide in the corners

The aspect ratio of a tyre is the tyre's height or profile expressed as a percentage of the width. If my maths is correct a 190/50 has a 95mm profile & a 190/55 is 104.5.
I changed from a 50 to a 55 on a GSX-R 1000 k6. I felt turn in was slightly quicker as a result of the taller profile but that sensation quickly went away after a few miles. That suggests, to me, that it's quite subtle & is a track/racing driven decision by tyre companies. IMHO. Great forum.
