Headlight Bucket

Anybody have an extra headlight bucket kicking around? The PO must have tightened the windscreen bolts too much because the bucket is cracked.

Got any ABS glue, the purple kind used on drain pipes?

You could glue the inside of it and it might turn out OK. That stuff contains heavy amounts of acetone, and will actually liquefy the plastic enough to reseal the crack, then when it dries it is just hard plastic again.

Just try and keep it off the outside, otherwise it will make the crack look worse.

Tried epoxy and that didn't work. ABS is a good idea though. I'll have to try that while I'm looking for a new one.

Might as well, it's already broke, right?

Worked great, thanks for the idea g00gl3it! Used Oatey all-purpose cement. One thing I will say, it dries on PVC in about 15 seconds but it took MUCH longer on the ABS headlight bucket. So far so good!

If you want to reinforce it here is an idea:

Buy a piece of ABS plastic (black ABS plstic pipe fitting from the hardware store) and bust it up into pieces. Shove the pieces into a jar and add some acetone and let it sit for a few days. It'll create an ABS "putty" and I've been told this putty is great for reinforcing and patching up broken ABS pairing pieces.

I have personally made the putty, but I never got around to using it, so I can not attest to how well it works. I was told it works real good though.
