Why do the site uses or needs Trackers?

Why do I need to have a script from Google-analytics or Quantcast? don't get me wrong, this is one of the sites that uses less trackers but still, why? does the site makes any money from it?

Not upset (not yet), just inquisitive I guess.

From what I understand, Google-analytics is what powers the ads on most forums, but I don't see ads on this one. I'm sure they're there, I just don't pay any attention, and usually have ABP running anyway... Google also helps with search engine traffic. Without it, your site doesn't show up in google searches nearly as often. I'm no webmaster though, so feel free to correct me.
