I was trying to find members in my area so I can go for a ride with riders that will not necessarily want to drag-race or have an instinctual death-wish. So I ended up on the Members List where there are more than 3600 people listed. Call me lazy, but I'm not going to look through all of the entries.
Considering that some members were not active for years, at all, not even checking their accounts or with no posts since 2008, wouldn't it be a good idea to do a clean-up?
I am fairly new here and I intend to stay for a while I may never have extraordinary contributions to the forum nor have something very interesting to say, but I would sure like to be able to meet and ride with folks in my area that are both active riding and on the forum.
With this in mind, I would like to suggest a search option in the members list: Would it be possible to do a search by State, by zip-code, by region? This would actually allow the WT Community to organize more events at a regional level, thus creating a swarm more often.
Good question and I know will start to look into them soon. I was just looking at cleaning up the members list myself not to long ago but need to get some tech answers on this first.

This dives into privacy concerns that we need to remember. There needs to be an opt-in to show location (maybe more than just what people put on their profile as their location) and another to be visible to others in a search.
Not sure why privacy is an issue..... No one HAS to name their location....
For example..... check out Bigdaa's profile...."Goleta Fun Fun".... where is that again?
Just stating that it is already an option to tell people or not.
Personally I think this is a great idea. I look forward to making contact with 919 owners in my area.

That's what I meant, that it needed to be an opt-in thing. Guess that would have been easier to explain that way, lol.

A few more search options have been added but it will take some time before members update their profiles. There is an advanced search option with a few more sorting options and I encourage you to take a look.
One of the biggest hurdles is that when the board was set up long ago there was a required profile field for 'location' but none for state, country, etc. Members filled it out in various ways sometimes with City, State, other times with a general region so there is a lot of mixed information there.
Now as new members register they are asked for city, state or province and post code so we have more granular info. As existing members update their profiles as well this will improve.
