weird scary noise... diagnose... repair

ok.. was out yesterday with tk919 taking a ride and i noticed a knocking noise in my motor... scary...

it was coming from the top end and i thought i had seriously f'd something up...

so i headed home *(120 miles) and did my best to make it explode... but it arrived home just fine... i pm'd a couple of the more intelligent people on here with my list of questions and true to form they answered with suggested checklist... *(thank you to the above unnamed members)

so last night after it cooled i checked for exhaust leaks.. found it had a SLIGHT leak at #1 cylinder so today i went and bought new COPPER gaskets... and spent a hour putting them in... well i just lied because i stripped a stud (gee thanks honda for the high quality nuts and bolts) and took another 30 mins replacing that stud...

i finally get it allllll back together and crank it up... same noise... cold water feeling down spine...

but as per instructions from intelligent friends i started checking spark plugs... and guess what ... that dirty so and so of a #3 spark plug that i had such a bitch of a time putting a new one in was 1/2 turn loose.... tightened it up real proper (resisted urge to over tighten) and voila...

nice and quiet like its supposed to be...

so to the people who gave me such excellent and correct advice my hat is off to you and i owe you big time...

i had the rag and the lighter ready

Haven't you learned by now Hondas are bulletproof and it's the people who work on them that mess them up?
