valve check

I have a 02 919. If all goes well i will be doing a long trip this spring, approx 5-6000 kms round trip depending on the final route.

the bike just rolled over 16,000 miles. I believe this is the recomended valve check. Is there generally any valves out of spec? I always do my own work, but it seams like quite the job. Not sure how the bike was driving in the past, i believe the old owner did alot for long trips.

Dose the site still have the shims kicking around?

It's really not that bad of a project to tackle. I believe its a rare occasion for the 9er to have a valve out of spec at 16k, but I could be wrong. None of mine were out of spec at 18k and I raped my bike pretty hard between 9k and 18k, so thats the only thing I can for sure tell you. My suggestion is dive in, if you need a shim or two hit up a local mechanic and see if they won't swap them out for you. Last I heard the kit was slim pickins at best.
