Pop, sputter...F.I. issues?

So I am pulling away from a stoplight this morning under, I'd say, moderate acceleration, shift into third and there is a pop, followed by a lack in power, then things pick back up as per normal. My Fuel Injection light stayed on for a few seconds...has anyone had this experience? What is the likely cause?

#1 question: What have you done to the bike recently? Maintenance, mods, tinkering, and the list goes on and on.

Oil changed recently.

New chain and sprocket 100 miles ago. (Obviously unrelated).

Engine and exhaust is totally stock 'cept for a bafflectomy done by the previous owner.

It's a 2003 919 with approx. 12,800 miles, by the way.

Have been riding in the rain lately? Might just be a loose ECM connector.

I haven't been in the rain recently, but I have ridden the bike in all sorts of weather. The ECT is connected properly...

Any other thoughts? Or should I run the diagnostic.

Did you use the NOS octane booster energy enhancer? If not, give that a try....

(I was kidding, please don't try that.....)

Did you use a different type of gas than usual, or notice the fueling truck refilling while you were there? I heard that water and debris tends to get stirred up when the refueling truck is refilling the storage tanks at the stations.

If the FI light is not ON, diagnostic won't tell you anything. How do you know the ECM connector is making a complete contact all the time? Did you unplug it then reconnect it checking for trace amounts of corrosion?

Naw, fuel from the same two or three stations I use...

I guess I don't know if it is connected completely, but it isn't/wasn't backed out. This is the higher and smaller of the two plugs visible under the right side of the tank, right?

I guess I'll run the self-diagnostic tests on pages 5-6 thru 5-8 of the Owner's Manual to see if that tells me anything.

I rode to and from lunch and nothing happened. I ran it pretty hard through the gear, softer, varied the amount of throttle...nothing...

Thanks, guys, for working with me on this...I just bout some SW Motech side racks and Pelican case to do a little light touring...now this...

check your battery terminal connections

if one is a little loose and you hit something, it can cause the problem you describe, though i would've expected it to show up a couple times, not just the once

TVETREE and RATDOG,

Thanks. I'll do both of those and report back this week. I appreciate the suggestions.

On another note, I just installed the previously mentioned Motech racks and two Pelican 1520 cases...awesome.
