HELP! 919 stalling/running rough

I have an 07, recently it has been sputtering and dying on me while going down the highway and when I stop at lights. it gives no warning and does it at random, I checked the air filter and it is clean...I've got a 3 hour ride planned this friday, does anyone have any idea where I should start?

Thanks in advance!

Fuel pressure regulator? Search for the threads, there is a vacuum line you need to check for gasoline.

Could also be a pinched or restricted fuel tank vent. See if a vacuum builds up in the tank or check the hose for free flow. May not be the problem, but it's an easy check.

3hr ride on friday, and no invite from you? I'm disappointed :P I'm guessing FPR but I could be wrong. If you need a hand on Friday looking at it, I can come over and lend one. I was planning on being in ATX anyway. Shoot me a PM if you want.

Mine did that. Ended up being a broken wire (I side the insulation only) feeding one of the two ignition coils. It was super frustrating troubleshooting it since it was an intermittent problem. I finally caught it running on two cylinders right when I pulled into the garage, jumped off and started poking around. When I kept touching the problem wire, it would start hitting on all four.

With all that said. It would probably help us troubleshoot if we knew what the last thing you did to it was. Did you have the tank up? Is there a PowerCommander installed? Was that installed recently? Remove PAIRS or flapper?

it has about 13500 miles, completely stock as of now. I had run a 1/2 bottle of lucas through 2 full tanks to see if that did anything with not much luck, Im going to check the fuel filter (btw does anyone know where i can get one in austin on short notice?), the regulator, and the tank vent when I get done with work today,
cmurphy84, where was the wire located that were giving you trouble?

thanks everyone!

It is really easy to see them if you raise the tank. Follow the spark plug wires and you will find the coils. On the other side of the coil is two very small wires with spade connectors on them. One of the small wires was broken. I had to cut off the old connector and crimp on a new one. There might be a thread out there...let me look.

ssat, try the KISS principle first. check your battery voltage. if it's low, charge and/or replace it.

with that few of miles i doubt its the fuel filter (which is located inside the tank) so i wouldnt worry about that now.

Id be willing to bet like stated above its some electrical prob with just a broken off wire or bad ground... when you have the tank up make sure you check the main ground lead that connects to the frame.

Any fairly new bike that acts up that begs first for the # 1 KISS question :
What was the last bit of work done on the bike, and when was it done ?

If there is no relationship between that event, then move on.
It's either fuel, electrical, or both.
My guess is that even if it fuel related, it will have an electrical prime Problem component to it.

UPDATE:
I really want to thank everyone for the help, after taking out to fuel pump and filter and closely examining every wire and hose (everything was perfect) I could see, I checked the battery connection, and sure enough I could jiggle it with my finger. So after tightening it down, my bike was back to normal....I'm so glad it wasn't anything serious.

THANKS EVERYBODY AND RIDE SAFE!!

Just curious, had you had the battery out ?
Or disconnected it for some reason ?

Most important is that you're back being mobile again !

Oddly enough I had not messed with it before today besides checking the air filter, seems like it just had shaken itself loose(Gremlins lol).

and thanks, a good running motorcycle is the key to happiness

I like happy endings.

I double nut the terminals - this has happened to me before as well.

Nice to know you found a resolution. I tried commenting right after you posted that you should check the battery first, but my phone was having fits ( I was tweaking the hell out of it) so Tapatalk was not playing nice.

Just another reason WT is such a great place, lots of people willing to help and they are usually right.
