Gas cap sticking

Went to fill up and took 25 min to force it open. it locks and unlocks but is sticking. I want to use some lube but worried it might contaminate the gas... thoughts?

undo the 6 allen bolts just enough so that you can slide the gas cap assembly around, and find the spot that it opens in the easiest. i want to say the gas cap has to little latches on the sides that move in and out... so centering the gas cap assembly should make it the easiest.

I had issues with the key not wanting to come out. Finally replaced it with one of those ebay screw-on specials for $35.

Is the tank developing a vacuum situation or is the cap sticking?

use graphite... and its been found that washers under the cap in the front bolts will help it... search around I know it has been discussed many years ago

Mine was sticky too. So after reading this thread I checked into it. I was able to fix mine by just loosening the three mount bolts, shutting the cap, then torque the three mount bolts. Now it wrks smooth. thanks for the heads up guys!
