Okay guys. I'm going to hook up a cigarette lighter-style 12v power outlet under the seat for use with cell phone, scala rider, GPS, etc. I moved the tool kit so I'll have my power outlet there. I picked up an all-weather outlet from AutoZone.
I checked the wiring diag for my car and the accessory outlets/ cigarette lighter sockets have 15A fuses. I have an outlet on my bike mounted to the frame just in front of the tank with industrial strength velcro. The main use for me is to to plug in the battery tender when the bike is parked. It been there for 2 years and no issues.
Thanks for the help guys. Laura's been laid up in bed feeling bad (pregnant + stomach virus = bad). So, while she has been sleeping all day, I've been in the garage working. I relocated the PCIII because i wasn't happy where it was located and got the 12v outlet installed. I took a few pictures at the end so I guess I should post them.
I suggest Wal-mart for the supplies. I bought black and red wire, in-line fuse holder and fuses, and the socket for about $15. I had the butt splices and the ring terminals and Super 33+ (good electrical tape) already.
first, I see that your powercommander has a dumb ol 9-pin connector like mine does! I thought I was the only one! I need to get a cable for it...
Second, you ran your wires straight off the battery? your going to use an inline fuse?
Looks like a good setup, well done! I've been meaning to do this for a little while, and keep getting sidetracked...
Yep...I have a DB9 connector on mine. I'm thinking of picking up a Serial to USB adapter. Honestly I haven't even plugged it in yet. I bought it from Sniper and just left the Sato map he had on it.
I did run the wires directly to the battery. If you look in the last photo I posted, you should be able to see the in-line fuse. It is the thicker red wire that leads into the black rectangle on the top left of the battery. I used a weather proof ATM Fuse setup that I picked up from the auto parts store for just a few dollars. I put a 15A fuse in it.
