Bafflectomy Question

Are there any negative affects to the bike longevity with a bafflectomy? Is it going to hurt or help performance (from what I have researched it should help or hurt). I am looking to do it, since I cant afford any of the aftermarket pipes. Anybody in VA or MD got an extra set of stock pipes in case I screw it up? Even better! Anybody got any aftermarket pipes sitting in their garage that they wanna give to me? I will pay shipping!

not hard to do. A guy I rode with a couple of times did it, and it is louder, but compared to my Sato's it sounded like hollow noise. It wasn't throaty or anything. My personal opinion obviously. But it sounded a lot better than stock.

Trust me I fully understand. I am paying for a new Car and Bike and Insurance for both. As well as school out of pocket every semester. On the bright side I will come out of college debt free and with an 04 919 and 03 civic si both paid off.

I like the way you think, I have seen pocketbikes with thermos's for pipes.
But I ride everywhere I cant have it ridiculously loud or it will drive me crazy. I just want a deeper throatier sound.

I resent that comment. I took the Big Buzzy muffler off my Civic when I got it. It is a garage ornament now.

Yes it is really sad when they cant go fast, but have cold air intake for and a loud @$$ muffler for no reason. I would rather just cruise around and have a decent stereo. Not to say I don't enjoy some speed or acceleration, but the bike is faster than the car can ever be.

I REALLY love the people who drive ratty cars with multi-thousand dollar stereos and can't afford double sided foam insulating tape from the dollar store to keep their license plate from reverberating.....

That or the cars where the wheels cost more than the vehicle did. Saw an old Suburban (one of the really long ones) that had a road runner wing on the top and had been lowered with 22s and those uber-thin profile tires. Would be lucky to make it over a speed bump without trashing the bottom of the vehicle.

But back to the orginial posters comments...yes, this forum is AWESOME! Glad you got some pipes so fast.

Shawn

Well, I rode a sv 650 during 8 years, my son is now riding it.
I made a hole in the center of the pipe, trough the main tube, about 2 cm of diameter, the bike rev a little more and makes more noise, not too much, no other mods were necessary.
The engine still how new, seven years later.
Now, I am asking me the same question, but refer the 919.
Maybe this one isn't so simple.
But I will try it!
Bye!

My stereo is worth about $2200 if I paid retail and had someone else install it, but I did it all myself.

i didn't say I paid that. I got all the components off of fleebay for half off, and then built my own sub enclosure, and installed everything myself. and made a floor for my trunk. All at a grand total of $800. Took me about 3 days to put everything in and wire it all up. But i was working 60 hour weeks at that time.
