Looking at a CBR 600 F4 with 8K miles, and I was wondering how much more low end torque, and top end speed for that matter, I can expect vs. my '05 919? Will the difference be significant?
Are you taking these to the track? Just get a bike that is most comfortable to you, they will all have more than enough power for an every day street rider.
Of course the larger displacement bikes will feel as if they have more pull, because they do. Race replica bikes will have an awesome top end and not as great low end compared to standards bikes. Standard bikes will have a better every day torque and power curve around the middle. A 600rr will still excite you, especially near the top end where it's screaming, and the 1000rr will do the same, except will excite you even more.
i have the 919 and the f4, one is for the lazy man with all torque the other is a screamer but you have to work at it. It is still quite comfortable as a tourer compared to modern sports bikes.
Both these and the 600rr and 1000rr are all very different bikes andwhy would you compare them.
Sounds like you should work out what category of bike you want, and then compare like bikes. IMHO
Coming off a 919, i tried a r6 and a cbr1k on a trackday. I found I liked the 1000 more as I could ride it more like the 919 (lower rev range). It obviously had a bit more grunt and a wider "sweet spot" than the 600 which had to be screaming to feel like it was doing anything, totally dead in the low revs and I didn't have the balls to really wring its neck around a track to make the most of it...which is why the 919 is great for me, it pulls like a truck in the low revs compared to a type-R bike.

I'm not looking to ride the tracks but whenever I'm out riding the streets and I hook up with 1 or more other guys on their sport bikes that I'll ride around with, I can't help to notice how much quicker off the line they are than me on my 919. I guess it has to do with how much lighter their bikes are than mine.
I guess I'm looking for a sport bike with really good low to mid end torgue. I just really wanna go faster that's all...
ace2222, if you work on improving your takeoffs and general rideability, you should be easily able to keep up with them of not overtake them. focus on the rider skills first before worrying about a "bike that goes faster"

I agree, I've done a few pretty good launches with the 919, still need more practice but I don't think MOST street riders would beat the 9er off the line too badly.
like stated its not the bike, its the rider.... i have no probs keeping up with most super sport bikes on the twisties on my 919, its got plenty of power n grunt and i actually have an easier more enjoyable time then the guys all hunched up on their super sports.
Then some chick will pass us all on a drz 400 riding it like a light switch... throttle on, throttle off..... so really its not the bike, its the rider....
i had an F4i, the 919 hands down launches better and I am by no means a seasoned track rider. F4i kills it in top end though.

It's not my riding skills... I've been riding longer than my close riding mates and I have my bike as wired as it's gonna get.
Their bikes are lighter and are much more torgueier (sp?) off the line. This I know. I can keep up with them if I really push it but my 919 is my baby so I'm not looking to ride her too hard and chance breaking something. It's all good...
Thanks for all the input!
Take a look at the 'torqueir' specs for the f4i, at what 10k. Then maybe you should re-evaluate the 'riding skills' thing. Time spent doesn't always relate directly to skill.
a f4 makes what... maybe 45-50 ftlbs... 919 has easily 20 ftlbs on the f4 and much better street gearing... it should take the f4 off the line quite considerably and probably up to ~ 100mph where the areos of the 919 (or lack there of) come into play.
that being said a liter sport bike will be all around better.... but be careful.
Usually when I meet up with riders on RRs, they look over the bike and think sport cruiser or somewhere along that line. Then we get up to the twisties where the 9er shines and they can't believe the 'sport cruiser' can hang if not overtake them. Afterwards they usually ask what the bike is and I tell them it's a (900rr) sport-bike with no fairings. They usually accept that better knowing that it wasn't a cruiser that was showing them up.
Straight-aways, I get left behind when wind becomes a factor. But any numb-nut can go fast on a straight... You meet people that are more into how fast the machine can go on the super-slab and you know what type of rider they are.
And I'm two steps behind from being a grandpa, need to have kids first then maybe graduate grandpa status.

I'm a bit tied for cash and don't really wager... but I'll send you these if you do get it up to 5.2 gallons at a Chevron or Shell (or one of the big chain places). One of each:

I've yet to try em, but I'm using the last bunch I bought of the regular dupont. Walmart has the chain specific stuff; I normally get the blue cans at Lowes and they don't carry the yellow.

I take that back, not sure if post office will allow me to ship those. I'll cover the full tank. $20 to Paypal
Haha, sounds good. I'll run the current tank as low as it was last time (it died on me once) and then head to a Chevron. I'll take a video on my phone as I do it.
Oh, and if I can't get it to at least 5.2, I'll change my Avatar to the Google Ass picture you have above. For a while anyways.
Heck, I may do that just for the fun of it, but at least you get something out of it, lol

Deal, I want to see the pumps readouts before and after. No funny cut outs or looking away with the camera either... the fish don't like fuel.
Where would you like the camera pointing most of the time?
I'm assuming a video starting from opening the gas tank (peak inside, but depending on lighting, not sure what you'll see there) then up at the pump, then back to the tank, and stay on the tank until full, then right back up at the pump. Does that work?
Heck, I could even have Osiris do a second video of me doing the video, if that makes you feel better, lol.
Oh, and Seulment doing a video of Osiris doing a video. We could have a menage a' troi!
That's probably a good idea on the new thread. Even better if you put an event in the Casino (can you do that as a mod) so people can join in... LoL
As for the camera angles... just get the meter before you start filling. Aim the camera at the tank/nozzle during the fill... once you're done, follow the nozzle back into the pump and let's see what you've got in (from the pump read-out). LoL
