Small Bag for 919

so i need a small bag to put stuff in when i'm out and about on the 9'er. i'm talking really small, like just large enough for a garage door clicker and my disc brake lock. i'm thinking in between the handlebars or something small on the tail....suggestions? perhaps a bike shop would be a good place to look....what have others done?

I keep my garage door opener in the left front pocket of my jacket. put the lock in another pocket and you don't need anything else. Or you could go to Walmart and pick up a small pouch and a bungee to attach it with.

I went with a Joe Rocket Hammerhead. Pretty small magnetic tank bag, but has clear pouches for GPS/Phone/MP3. I can post up a pic if you like

I went Joe Rocket too, I went with the MANTA in red... but they also have a Manta XL which is bigger. The regular manta will hold a 1 ltr bottle of water/soda or a couple cans and a sandwich. It also has two small external pockets. I put my phone in the clear window one, so I can see it light up (yea right) and my wallet and camera in the other one. It also comes with a rain-fly and a shoulder strap. These I usually just leave in the big pocket unless I need the extra space, then the rain-fly goes in the wallet/camera pocket and the strap goes with the phone. Good luck in choosing!

Oh, the magnets held perfectly at 110 indicated on a 919 with no fairing. Of course I was on a deserted back road, not the highway, other disclaimers about your own personal safety, etc.

I have one of these on my bike 24/7. Very convenient. I love it. It actually holds quite a bit. Fastens with velcro straps under the seat.

I like this idea the best. i've seen the joe rocket tank bags at the local shop. they're great, and i'll get one for when i take a long weekend trip but for everyday i'm just looking for something a lot smaller/lower profile.

garyb900---if the bag is empty, is it ok to have a passenger?

thanks for the suggestions

I don't see why not as long as it's empty. I don't have passenger pegs so I haven't tried it but I don't see a problem. It would just be a little thicker for them.

Agreed, but I must admit I had a bit of sticker shock. Was thinking 35-40 bucks tops.

Their website says..."The unique feature of Fast Pack is that when not needed, it collapses and zips down to become a padded seat cover. You never need to remove it from your bike!"

Please note we do not recommend carrying a passenger with Fast Pack attached.

At first I had sticker shock too but after a while I justified it to myself by making it a birthday present to myself!
Plus I couldn't find anything else out there that did the same thing as the fastpak.
On a side note the RKA bag is $100 and from what I can see it doesn't fold up/collapse. RKA Luggage Seat & Rack Bags - Expandable Motorcycle Luggage | Pashnit Moto

The 8 litre RKA bag doesn't colapse or expand but does pop off the seat with 4 velcro tabs

The Fast Pack's a great idea, gonna save up, maybe treat myself on the next b'day, too-- thanks garyb!!
Have been just leaving the 4 OEM seat hooks out, with a bungee net hooked over them, for use whenever.... doesn't look tooo bad... The key fob garage door opener on a quick release mini-clip attaches easily to the clutch line, and a piece of velcro on the underside of the handlebar keeps it from flapping around.

As for the door opener I saw a post somewhere in here about wiring it into the handle bars on the right side so you can open the door on the fly!!! No bag needed!!! and on that note you might be able to find a spot to drill out for the disc lock!!! plus this is a lot cheaper than the $70 seat bag.....just some food for thought

Go with the Cycle Guys bag. I used one on my 599 and now on my 919. You can fit quite a bit of stuff in there. When not in use it doubles as a butt pad for your passenger. I put stuff in there almost every day I ride. WELL WORTH THE MONEY IMHO.

Its not cheap ---- but since getting into Dual-sporting & ADVrider..... I've been drooling over the Wolfman motorcycle bags. I'm saving up for the 'Wolf Tail'........ its a tail bag that hooks to your seat. I currently have their strap 'Tiber Wolf', and its the best tank bag I've ever owned.

Here's a pic of the Wolf Tail....

And a pic of my bike with the Timber Wolf....(The quick release is sweet.....you can get to your tank in seconds) The bag also has an expansion zipper on the bottom ----- big enough to carry a 6-pack and other stuff.

Another thing to check out....... Have you ever seen the Ventura Rack -- Sport Pack? Its 2 side rails..... they then have 2 different sized racks --- a large and a small..... and a BUNCH of different bags. The one I have is the 'Sport Rack' with the Sport waterproof bag. The rack can be flipped around with way ---- solo mode (like pictured), or 2 up mode.....them becomes a small backrest/grabrail for your passenger.

When I get the 'Wolf Tail', I plan to flip the rack backwards, and strap the tail pack to my rack and seat.
