GO Pro Camera?

Anyone have experience with these cameras?

GoPro Official Store: Wearable Digital Cameras for Sports

Just started looking for a camera to use for pics and videos while riding, and this is definitely an intriguing option since I ride in the rain, and the lens is protected.

a few guys I race with use them. you can search for cokato supermoto on youtube and see the quality, not the greatest but not terrible for the price I guess.

^^ my understanding is that the quality on YouTube isn't too great because they compress the crap outta your files when you post them.

In other words, the GoPro produces good quality vids.
If you want to post them on the web, find another place to host them that allows for larger bandwidth, allowing to display it at a better quality.

I'm considering the Motorsports HERO Wide

I've had a GoPro for a couple of years. Takes a beating and keeps shooting. Its really a bare bones camera that will get really good video for you in any riding environment. Plus no wind noise which I get with every other camera I use.

good to know, makes sense since every youtube video is pretty crappy quality wise.

I've seen more than a dozen of them in the Wera/Nesba paddocks. Some of the guys have them mounted in several positions on the bike.

I haven't heard any complaints.

mounts to the helmet via two-side tape(good stuff) and a curved plastic pad about the size of 1 of those bigger xmas postage stamps.
i have'nt had a reason to film in the rain but the mount has been on my helmet for 4 mos. and i could do the crazy glue ad.
i've got the wide also and really like it.

When you stick the helmet mounts, make sure they are where you want them. They aren't coming off.

do yourself a favor and buy something else. The only thing that makes it attractive is the waterproof case it comes with, other then that its a piece. The money you spend in lithium batteries to get any kind of recording time will also make up for any $$ you might have saved, very quickly.

dr1... the waterproof case isn't the only selling point IMO,
- versatility... so many ways to mount it... helmet, handlebars, windshield, etc. etc.
- size... this thing is pretty small
- image quality... the new breed HEROS shoot in 1080p HD

Do you have any other suggestions?
I'm not trying to snub your opinion, I'd sure like to hear some other suggestions if they're for comparable units at comparable prices.

drewvir... care to explain a little more detail how it works?
For VIDS:
Is there a manual start/stop button or does it just take video until it's full or battery is dead?
For PICS:
you mentioned a 3/5 sec interval, can you also use a shudder button like on a regular camera?
It'd be cool if you could somehow rig up a cable from it to your handlebar grip (like a kill switch or turnsignal - something thumb actuated) to fire off a few shots at random... but I'm probably just dreaming.

I suppose this stuff is printed somewhere, I just haven't found it yet, sorry for being lazy & short on time

vids= a start/stop button on top of the camera/housing.
pics= yes it will do 1 pic also a "burst" i think it's 5 frames.
the remote is probally more trouble than it's worth. either set it to burst or interval the button isn't that hard to work.

as far as dr1's comments i use nicad rechargeables which will run the full 2gb sd card in video and more than that in pic. you can add software for a 4gb sd card but then the batteries become a problem.
when i went to the dragon i took 3-2gb cards and 6 "aaa" nicads and had no problems comming back with almost 2 hrs of video and 319 pics. that was plenty for me.

at SD Card, SD Memory Card, SD Cards, SD Memory Cards, Secure Digital Card - SuperMediaStore.com you can get 2gb for $6.49 ea. i get all my sd/cf/usbflash,ect from them

Roger that on the rechargeable AAA's. I bought 2 4 packs and and after hrs and hrs of video, they are still going strong. I wouldnt even think about feeding it alkalines. The rechargeables have paid for themselves probably a hundred times over by now. Get one, buy a couple of 4 pack rechargeables and all the memory cards you can carry. You can never go back and get the same shot.................
