i think this is the most pertinent part of the equation...

Quoted from wally at bcsportbikes...

"Well I christened the bike tonight. The Givi engine guards just paid for them selves.

Wet pavement, unscrubbed tires, 20kph highside.

Ding in the tank, rash on the mirror, bar ends, tail piece... and the $150 Givi engine guards are fucked.

Man do I ever feel like a piece of @#$#."

follow His link and look at the pics, read the thread. ALL OF BOTH TRHREADS
then post

This is my feeling as well.
But what about the other side that was not hit and slid upon ?

My Givis have over 30,000 miles and one 40mph drop in the dirt about 2 yrs ago. No complaints at all.
I guess they were made at 10:30am on a Wednesday
The only way to get them right is to install every bolt loosely, then finger tight, then torque with purple locktite. Where the two ends meet with the plug between them, a single wrap of duct tape prevents rattles. I look mine over at every oil change. All my bolt holes lined up perfect, if not, then ream the hole a tad instead of prying with a bar then bolting down.

I felt horrible vibrations and when I checked left side was cracked right where you showed on the picture. I got it rewelded on both sides and repainted. It looks much better now... This kind of thing happens to all range of Givi products all the time.

OK. new bars on their way. Will be interesting to see how long they last. That was a massive hassle.

I'd forgotten about that, I'm not going to go through that, I want them to be correct...

I don't own a set of them, although they've been on my mind for awhile.

I wonder if anyone has had a set that lined up perfectly on install.

Seen pics of the way you ride, mike. Wouldn't recommend them for you, they drag for me on very aggressive riding on track and I'm not all that fast.

Gwah - thanks for the info -- I was suspicious of them in terms of ground clearance.

I suppose going with frame-sliders is my right choice.

My first set lined up perfectly but the welds cracked. You'll drag the pegs well before the bars in a corner.

I think these offer the best protection (when they're in one piece anyway) But I have had a couple good scares when the left side dragged on the track. That awful sound of metal on tarmac is never good to hear...

i don't see how yours are dragging unless you don't have foot pegs,i've taken off the peg feelers(not in this pic) and they still drag long before the givi's do.
hell the shifter drags before the givi's

:001_smile: The stockers are way low even without the hero blobs. I'm running coerce rear sets and i've decked the givi cage (the part near the underside of the left engine case cover) on the track.

Tried to fit the second left side replacement, it didn't fit either. Another set coming from Givi.

I picked up my new bars yesterday. The welds still look like shit. I'll put em on and see how they last. If they crack again I'll just go to the trouble of grinding them down and rewelding them myself.

I was dealing with my local parts guy (he got some beer for his efforts). He was dealing with Importations Thibault, which is the Canadian Givi importer.

LOL You got a replacement because they didn't fit right? Awesome. That should take some of the heat off me

That said, I wouldn't go to the trouble after the last ordeal.

So I got my original crash bars back from Givi last Friday, I figured I would have them welded and re-paint them since they fit. Today, I figured I would line them up and take some pics for Givi so they could see where the new ones were off. I lined up the old ones and much to my surprise they were off as much as the new sets were, mind you the bike is on the centerstand all this time. I know I had no problems installing them the first time around, I didn't have the centerstand yet though. I put the bike on the side stand, lined up the bars and guess what... they lined up perfectly. I grabbed one of the new ones and same thing, no problems. There must be flex in the frame when the bike is on the centerstand that caused my issue. Go figure. I now have my new crash bars installed and ready to ride. If anyone, ping Rob, would care to comment, please share your thoughts. Thanks.

FYI, Givi has discontinued production of the crash bars for the 919, this is from Givi USA in an email today. My second set also cracked at the welds, they are sending me replacements and I will re-weld them before installation.

I'm going to be trying to buy a new set in a few days-a week. I hope that there will still be a few sets in residual inventory. Mine have held up very well, and my bike would have been permanently ruined without them.
